Sean Penn defends Jude Law & scolds Chris Rock
Anyone else see this? Was Sean really pissed or was he just having some fun with Chris? I like Sean, Jude & Chris, so hope all is well!

1. Sean Penn has no sense of humor.
Everything to him is so damn serious.

5. I was just thinking that!
He's a great actor but no body will ever accuss penn of taking things lightly with a grain of humor, that man always looks like he has to have a cause to go after. he's still pissed from the paparatzi days.

10. Excuse me. Are you serious? Penn has no sense of humor?
He was brilliantly funny in both “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” and “Sweet and Lowdown” to name just a few. If you meant that he’s a serious actor, then I have to agree. Consequently, I understand why he had to express his support for another serious actor like Jude Law. After all, it’s supposed to be an awards ceremony celebrating the best achievements in movies, not stand-up comedy.

I think that he was just trying to set the record straight. And neither Rock’s or Penn’s comments came off as offensive, defensive or lacked a sense of humor.

12. Penn evidently was offended by Rock's joke.
Otherwise he wouldn't have brought it up two hours later.

(And no, my comment about having no sense of humor wasn't absolute, but if there was a time to have it, tonight would have been appropriate.)

14. If this becomes or is supposed to be the takeaway spin from the AA

then we have totally gone through the looking glass. This is a wild goose chase. A diversion.

Did anyone notice or comprehend Rock’s great metaphors about how * should have lost his job at the top of the show? That was brilliant and on the spot. And yet I haven’t noticed much discussion about that.

7. Sean Penn was an ass

it was a fucking joke and Rock made fun of himself in that joke. Jude Law didn't need defending.

8. Penn tried to make a joke. He didn't deliver it well.
His remarks after praising the talent of Jude Law was to say that there are ten times as many great actresses. (He was presenting Best Actress.) But he swallowed the line.

9. Wonder if Jude will be embarassed or flattered
The two are shooting a movie together. Penn seems pretty loyal, but probably needs to take it easy a bit.

... choad.

It was a joke, Sean. A joke. It was pretty funny, really. I mean, who among us hasn't badmouthed the sheer volume of work churned out by young actors in their prime?

Gwyneth Paltrow did "View From The Top," fer chrissakes, and Chris Rock was kind enough not to single her out. Then again, she was actually in the audience.

Relax and just open the damned envelope, Sean. You don't have to embrace every last little thing as a "cause." You dilute the real causes when you behave so poorly in public.
