5. Ok I'll step up to the plate and answer my own questions
Before I start, I just wanna say you guys rock! I love all your answers so far.

So here are mine:

1) What do you think the meaning of life really is?

I think love. It's an easy answer. But does anything else mean anything without it? The alternative answer is, of course, 42.

2) If you were stranded on a desert island who is the one person you would want with you?

My lover.

3) Why did you pick that screen name?

It's from a KaTe Bush song. The lyric goes: "Kashka from Baghdad lived in sin they say with another man, but no one knows who". I misspelled it, but I like it so much I go by Khash or Khashka in real life a lot of the time now.

4) Who would you like to run for President in 2008?

Barbara Boxer.

5) Who is your favourite actor/ actress?

William H. Macy. He is so talented I'm in awe of him. And I think he's deadly sexy.

6) What is your favourite swear word?

I stold this question from Inside the Actor's Studio. The one I use most is, of course, fuck. But my absolute all-time fave is cocksucker.

Khash.

7. Kate Bush is a genuis
I wish that she would go back to producing music again. She was light years ahead of her time. The entire "The Dreaming" disk still sends chills down my spine. I used to have the LP version, and I ran the disk backwards to find out what she had backwards-masked at the end of "Leave It Open".....it turned out to be "they said they want to be here".....creepy stuff in light of the rest of the lyrics. I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about it. Riveting and intelligent music.

11. KaTe Bush is god
And The Dreaming is still way beyond what most people consider music.

The interesting thing is it's not backward masking. She sang the lyric and then listened to it backward and sang it backward phoneticallly. She did the same thing with "Watching You Without Me" on the Hounds of Love album.

14. Wow, I did not know that!
But it sounds very "Kate".

By the by, if you're a serious fan, this just came out a month or two ago...

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1844494896/qid=1109198825/sr=8-1/ref=pd_csp_1/103-7877592-8439822?v=glance&s=books&n=507846

I would think that it could be bought elsewhere if one wanted to boycott Amazon. I'm thinking about getting it, but I'm looking for it locally first. The lead time of 4 to 6 weeks is too much for me unless I just can't track it down anywhere else.

15. Thank You!!!!!!!
And yes I am a serious fan.

I grew up in the UK and when Wuthering Heights came out on 45 I bought it. I had never heard anything like it before. It still sends shivers down my spine. I bought all the old 45s as they came out. I've even got a few of the first few pressings where she scratched messages into the vinyl.

Have you heard "The Cathy Demos"?

Khash.

18. Never heard "The Kathy Demos"
At least it doesn't ring any bells. I do have a bootleg import CD with a lot of live tracks and a few demos on it, though. The sound quality is poor on some cuts and you can tell that someone just smuggled a tape player into the concert, but since Kate didn't really tour, they're historically significant.

21. The Cathy Demos
Edited on Wed Feb-23-05 06:35 PM by khashka
The ones that sound so bad? A bunch of 'em are bootlegged from the demo tape she did when she was a teenager. There were something like 50 songs that she recorded at home with her brother using one of those clunky old 70's tape recorders. The kind a kid might have. David Gilmour of Pink Floyd heard them and went to the record company and pretty much demanded that they sign her. It's bootleg and the quality is aweful but a fan recently cleaned them up digitally and they sound a lot better. She benignly doesn't notice since they were never on an album or were early versions of songs she later recorded.

But a lot of them are really good. Like "While Davey Dozed" or "Playing Canasta in Cold Rooms" or "Organic Acid" or the original version of "Violin". If you really like her work it's worth getting a copy of the cleaned up version. (Which you can usually get for free.) And it's amazing to think when she taped it she was 16!

Khash.

27. Wow, I'll admit that I was not familiar with "The Cathy Demos"
...at all. This disk that I have probably doesn't contain anything from those tapes. It's called "Collaborations", and it's a bunch of her duets and songs where she sang backup for other artists and such. The obviously bootlegged songs are live tapings of "The Man With The Child In His Eyes" with Peter Gabriel, "Don't Give Up", again with Gabriel, "Another Day", yet again with Gabriel, and a live version of "Let It Be" with Dave Gilmour.

The other stuff on the disk is real oddball. "Sing Children Sing" from a 1979 charity single, along with the "B" side, called "Rainbow Games".

She also backs Big Country and Roy Harper among others. I think I picked this up at Sound Exchange in Houston sometime in the very late 80's.

I'm going to have to make an effort now to go out and find the Cathy Demos. Thanks for the information.

Good to meet another Kate fan!

Postscript: my wife is also a big fan and has heard of "The Kathy Tapes". Apparently I'm just behind the curve a little.

8. Here goes. (I hope you like getting to know me, kashka)
1. Forty-two. Somebody else beat me to it. B-)

2. My wife. :-)

3. I didn't want a politically based user name that might not survive the vicissitudes of the modern political arena. I Latinized the name Aristocles, which was Plato's real name. The rest, as they say, is history.

4. John Edwards, Barack Obama, or Hillary Clinton.

5. Right now? Fave actress is Alicia Coppola. She mostly does character work in "guest star" mode; and she is hot, Hot, HOT!!!!

6. Merciful Heavens!*

*explaination: When I was in the Army, all the seventeen and eighteen year-old kids who were away from home and Mommy for the first time swore up a blue streak. I got tired of that, and joined some of the older, more centered guys who wanted to see how little they could use profanity. We took to using "clean profanity", like the example above. It was kind of fun; say "fuck" often enough, and it loses its bite. "My word" and "My goodness" get your attention, especially if uttered by someone under the age of seventy. :-)

The profanity thing. I swear a lot. But I do say things like "my word", "oh good heavens", or my fave "oh my giddy aunt". And you are right, it really does get people's attention.

And another question could be Bill Cosby's "Why Is There Air?" That's often the first question I think of asking people. I guess my answer is : so we don't have to breathe water.

Okay.

24. Finally!
I was feeling so despondent. I'd answered your random questions and you hadn't answered mine and I was thinking: "She doesn't really love me. She only ever wanted me for some cheap, sordid, anonymous question and answer thread". I feel much better now :)

And, yeah, Helen Mirren. No maybe about it. A great actress. And as she gets older she only gets more beautiful.
