147. Boooooo, Prospect High here...
A PHS wrestler here from the early 70's. You guys were our big rivals, not that we could compete with all you state champs!

BUT, while you won on the mats, we dated your women folk. Four of my best friends and I all dated Hersey girls, I took one to prom, my buddy ended up marrying one.

Mr. Baar conducts the JHHS's orchestras. Depending on how long ago you graduated, he may have been teaching there (or even taught you).

Edit: GO BISON :D (BG Class of '06)

Edit2: Oh, 70s... in the 70s Mr. Baar was just a stinking hippie :hippie: :)

24. Maine Township High School East - aka Maine East.
Park Ridge, IL.

http://www.maine207east.k12.il.us/

originally just Maine Township High School, until they built a Maine South, Maine West (aka Mainly Wasted) and Maine North to handle the population growth. Maine East built in 1902 was the best of the four. Maine North closed after not too many years.

Trivia:

Hillary Clinton graduated from Maine South
The Breakfast Club was filmed at Maine North

snobs. My old yearbooks are full of pictures of Youth for Nixon. And one time we had "ethnic understanding day" in which (I swear I'm not making this up) we invited people of color to our campus for lunch.
It was laughable.

159. I share an office with a guy that went to PV
well, it was called Peninsula when he was there.

He laughs about being afraid when they had to come down and play at Banning in a baseball game. They thought bullets were going to fly by from PCH and Avalon :eyes:

Wilmington is definitely not the town it was when I was in HS now, but back then it wasn't so bad - maybe not rich, but not bad.

Of course our impression of the PV kids was that they all drove Mercedes and had maids etc.. LOL

183. No, they weren't all rich - not back then.
My family moved there in 61. My dad worked for one of the many aerospace companies in the South Bay, as did the dads of just about everybody I knew. Back then a middle class family could still buy a house in PV, especially in the older area where I lived. One time some snotty woman told my mom that we lived in the "poor" section of PV! LOL

My parents' biggest regret is that they sold their house in 1970 for less than 50K. Today the lot alone is worth over a million, and I would imagine that kids really do drive Mercedes to PVHS these days!

My best friend from back then lives in San Pedro, and I still get down to the area from time to time. Could never afford to live there, though!

Did either you or your husband take German with Frau Rose, or play in orchestra with Mr. Reichenfeld (still alive btw) I believe I saw those two in the 1967 Yearbook. Also 67 Grads Carl Williams and Catherine Seftic (possibly Setvic) appeared in the book much to the amusment of their students from the 90's

83. Actually
Husband was in the orchestra - played trombone. Reichenfeld is still alive?!! He was ancient when I was there... of course then, my perception of what is "ancient" has changed as I have aged.

There was this really cool substitute teacher when I was still there. I don't remember his real name, everyone called him Birdman. For some reason he came to mind recently. This thread reminded me of that.

So which elementary school did you go to? I was at St. Bart's and husband went to Seneca.

As for the trees - there used to be scrub woodland all along Rodi on both sides. There was a small patch of woods off Duff at Rodi where I spent most of my spare time as a child. It's gone now. The section between the Parkway entrance ramp and Hoover Rd. was fairly heavily wooded.

The real one: Cedar Lane Center.(for emotionally disabled students)

The technical one: Herndon High.

Herndon pretty much didn't want to deal with anymore, so they told me to leave halfway through my senior year. I did, and I went to Cedar Lane and graduated there but got my diploma from Herndon.

Brick Township High School, or "Old Brick" as we locals calls it to differentiate from the newer Brick Memorial High School (a memorial to what, I don't know). My alma mater recently made it to the Latest Breaking News here because of the kid who refused to recite the Pledge of Allegiance (when I went there, we said the Pledge, and were encouraged to sing the Star-Spangled Banner, which was played every morning).

Only I'm not even sure she was born when I graduated. By the time she attended, my high school had become a junior high school, and a fancy new but very ugly humongous set of buildings became the high school.

Ann Coulter gives New Canaan a very bad name, sad to say. It was a nice place once upon a time.
