4. i was just going to say that. to any detractors: try and play all of his
chords, some of them are impossible. and, he's not one of those assholes who throws in crazy chords/riffs just to be pretentious, his progressions are all fairly poppy, and you can't tell that he's doing as much as he is (hence why i feel he is a wussy genius).

7. Well said.
Exactly right (and I voted the same way). When you hear his songs, you think, oh that sounds easy. But they're never as simple as they sound, just the opposite.

And if you've ever heard his 2-track promo CD with his rendition of SRV's "Lenny", that's where the genius comes in.

5. Yes, he's an excellent player-and a wuss.
No one can take that musical talent away from him ever.

8. Does he lip sync his live appearances?
Seriously, every time I've seen him it reminds me of one of those English dubbed Japanese films. Maybe it's an added extra to his genius.

9. wussy genius
he is like a frat boy rocker that can actually play the guitar. i am not much on his music/songs or his voice, i don't really like his personality, so that pretty much means that i think he "sucks", however, he is a very talented guitar player. he is just not my kind of musician.

11. Any perceived "talent" doesn't make up for the fact that he's an ass
My uncle knows him. Helped him out when he was just starting to play local gigs here in Atlanta and anyone who knows him from his early days will tell you that he's a complete and utter asshole.

12. A lot of artists are
Self-absorbtion seems to be common among creative types.

I think Mayer's music is well-constructed glurge. His chord progressions are great but most of his stuff is purile. "Your Body is a Wonderland" makes we want to throw up everytime.
