Poll question: Honestly, how did you think Hunter S. Thompson would die?
I was a big fan of the good doctor, and I've taken his death pretty hard.

When I was in college, some friends and I took a drug-fueled run from Reno to Las Vegas in imitation of "Fear and Loathing". We read passages from that book to each other, and referred to it as "The Bible". Monday was spent getting back in touch with those people, people I never should have gotten out of touch with in the first place. All of us agreed that of the way we thought HST would go out, that had to be last on the list.

If you thought about it at all, how did you think he would go out? And what do you think of the way he exited the stage?

1. Figured he'd shoot himself
Or get shot by someone else.

4. Exactly what I would have thought,
...always waving his guns around, shouting, carrying on. I figured he'd do it accidentally.

Hunter...R.I.P.

3. Just as he did.
Didn't figure it would be so (relatively) soon; but I figured he'd die by his own hand. That way nobody else gets to set the parameters by which he dies.

The Good Doctor never liked living by anyone's rules but his own.

5. The Question Mark is Emphasized
I was shocked and appaled when I read about Thompson on Sunday night. My partner refused to believe it was intentional, and frankly, so did I- that many drugs and that many guns around make for a lethal combination. Part of me is furious that he went out this way, just at the time when we need him most. But another part of me is glad that he burned out, like a shooting star, rather than end up a toothless old man, shitting his pants and not being able to string two words together. Given a choice between suicide and obsolescence, I'd rather think of him making his own choice.

But how I hate the choice that he made. And how I miss him.

6. Once I heard he was dying, it made sense to me.
He had no patience or tolerance for the weak, soft life. For letting anything else (even a disease) control him or his time. He was the very definition of the old cliche "larger than life", and when life dared to steal that title away from him, he chose to remove himself from the running rather than slowly fall into mundanity.

12. I agree completely.....
I don't see how the ending could have been written any other way. I have to admit, I respect the decision on his part. He went out on his terms.

8. didn't think about it
at all. After all, I had never even met him. don't think about how people I do know are going to die either. Just know that someday they will, and so will I, and so will all of us.

So why worry about what can't be helped?

and in the process of trying to kill every God Damned one of them accidently shoot himself to death.
