Monkeys are smarter than cowboys.

2. Rally Monkey is much worse
the word "monkey" makes me think of the word "Bush". Besides,I'm not objective about this.

4. Why not be objective?
It's not like you wouldn't remain a fan. Heck, I talked with a couple friends last night (former Boston residents now living in Maine), and, though they were ecstatic about the game, they repeatedly made fun of the "Cowboy Up" bit.

Besides, in truth, I'm much harder on my fave teams (than on non-fave teams) when they do something goofy.

6. Truthfully,
BOTH terms are so silly that it's really hard to pick one or the other. I wish these things wouldn't take off like they do,and catch on with people.

3. They're both retarded
why do these teams need pathetic gimmicks? waving around stuffed monkeys at a baseball game only underscores the notion that californians are seriously in need of help. "Cowboy Up" ... i don't even know where to begin. Boston's a classy team though.. especially Manny.

8. Cowboy up
is retarded. Still cant believe New Englanders are fawning over such nonsense. But then again when you dont know what winning feels like then any silly ol term sounds cool.

11. Nah, it's not fun.
It's mindless, I'll give you that, but it detracts from the real fun of the playoffs, IMHO. They both just annoy the crap out of me! Sorry.

And, believe me, I love mindless sports fun. I attend far more minor league ballgames than MLB games each year, and that should say something.

What, I don't know.

15. What exactly do you have against it?
What's wrong with some silly slogan/idea for a team or a team's fans to rally around.

I personally don't see how it detracts from the sport.

17. Like just about anything, if done well... I'm all for it.
But these two are just plain BAD. As I already stated, they're more annoying than fun. I guess I'm asking for a little more creativity out of major league sports. Hey, it's not like we don't pay enough to watch. We should be more demanding!

19. To me this isn't an issue of getting people in the seats
First of all, "Cowboy Up" was thought of by one of the Red Sox players to help motivate the team. It wasn't some slogan from the front office. So, I really can't see what your problem is with that.

In terms of the Rally Monkey, I can understand how some people could find that annoying, but again its nothing that would prevent me from attending a major league game.

20. I don't care where it comes from...
It's annoying. It reminds me of the type of thing the "dufus" contingent of my high school football team would say.

But, hey, enjoy it, if you want. I'm just being a critic, 'cause that's what fans do. And it annoys the heck out of me.

12. I HATE "Cowboy Up"
It makes no sense to my New England mind.

However, I do find it preferable to "Yankees Suck".

I think the rally monkey is cute. I prefer the Rally Karaoke Guy (Kevin Millar before the haircut) and I hope he won't be needed for the rest of the year. ;)

Frankly, I think "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" was just fine as an all-purpose "rally" cry. But I'm a baseball purist.

Now we're guilted into rallying around the flag with that annoying "God Bless America" crap...

(on edit: typo)
