Hunter S. Thompson and Sandra Dee on the same day....
weirdest death-coupling since Sammy Davis Jr. and Jim Henson.

3. I wasn't saying they were secretly linked....
lol. Believe me, few people on DU have to tell ME what's a coincidence and what's not. You probably haven't seen me in the Skeptics forum :)

Of course, Henson and Davis were linked because Sammy was clearly a muppet.

John Raitt died, too? Damn!

Edit: just looked up CNN, and yes, he's gone. 88 years old. Good for him. I also think he'd be quite pleased to see the headline read "John Raitt, singer father of Bonnie, dies". He was quite a talent on his own, but he sure loved his daughter and she made him quite proud.

8. F***! Another one!
When I was seven years old, I saw John Raitt in a revival of Carousel (which he originated on Broadway).

About seventeen years later, I sat a few seats away from Hunter S. Thompson during a test screening of "Where the Buffalo Roam."

As far as I know, I never had any contact with Sandra Dee.

9. Nick Danger...
you are the kiss of death! DEATH!

You probably ran into Sandra Dee at the supermarket and didn't know it was her.

6. I have never been so aware of my age
Fuck all - I grew up with these people. Sandra Dee was the little blue-eyed blonde all us brunette, brown-eyed girls hated.

HST was the guy who called Nixon out long before Watergate, and who will always be one of my heroes.

My guess for Number Three on this Death Hat Trick?

Annette Funicello

She croaks, and I am officially OLDLeftieLawyer.

10. The really sad thing about her was that she was pushed into
Edited on Mon Feb-21-05 02:43 AM by SoCalDem
hating her body as she matured.. It's almost parallel to Judy Garland.. When Sandra dee was "discovered" and became "Gidget", she still had that rail thin "prepubescent" body that was not that uncommon for 14-15 year olds of her era, but she was already older, so when she finally blossomed, the studios were not ready for her to have "adult roles"..

I saw her once on an interview show, and she told of how the costume department would actually BIND her so she showed few curves..

Her marriage to Bobby Darin was actually an "in your face" move to the studios, and her pregnancy too...so they HAD to let her grow up.. The sad thing was... she was never really a "great actress", and in her grown-up years she struggled with bulimia, anorexia, pill addiction and alcohol..

Very sad :(

11. How incredibly sad!
Edited on Mon Feb-21-05 04:47 AM by Rhiannon12866
But, I agree, who's going to be #3? Even a sadder thought.:-(

On edit: Here it is, John Raitt, at 88, a very nice man.:-(
