1) What about Mickey Dread?

2) What's the name of the european city, where a guy did spit right into Strummer's mouth - and as a reply, Strummer did hit him with his guitar right over the head. (There was a kind of riot going on, because the punks thought, the Clash are about to sell out with >London Calling<)

3) Which band did write the following lyrics:
"CBS promote the Clash/ But it's not for revolution, it's just for Cash"

23. You're hard to beat!
1. I have to reseach this. He did write - as many suspect - most of the reggae stuff on Sandinista - I mostly remember his voice from "One more time" and other stuff. I know his voice very well from his solo stuff and don't recognize his voice in Armagideon Time or White man..., but maybe you're right. At least live, he contributed to Armagideon Times. BTW The original is incredible good. One of the most common Dub-Riddims.

2. It was Hamburg and he got hepatitis before, so this time Strummer decided to fight back. It was a kind of scandal, 'cause newspapers in Germany reported the story as though the guy would be half-dead. But he was seen in a prominent punk-club just one day after the accident in 1980.

3. Yes! During the concert in Hamburg, people were wearing banners with this lyrics from the Crass and tried to stop the Clash playing Stuff like >Brand New Cadillac< from London Calling. "You're traitors! You're the next fucking Rolling Stones! You're the next big thing in the USSA!"

Dirk

I was playing Sandinsta for my friend, Freda, when her husband Tom walked in (http://pnwbands.com/magnetics.html). He said "Shit! is nothing sacred? The Clash are covering _______?" He was joking with the "is nothing sacred" part.

It's a Louisiana thing-about Angola prison-and the guy Tom named was a New Orleans musician. The Holy Modal Rounders, James Booker, Dr. John and Professor Longhair (a friend of Tom's, IIRC) all have versions of it. It has thousands of verses, because they make them up in prison.

The author is not listed on the vinyl. It's under 'Copyright Control.' The CD claims 'All selections by The Clash'

Hope your kiddie is feeling better! :hi:

and they were both out of their minds on drugs and started making out right in front of Joe and then Jane broke a beer bottle and sliced Shane badly with it - skeeved Joe out terribly.

I admit that was a really obscure question.

38. Dayum - these questions are *tough*
I know Jones/Strummer produced an Ellen Foley album, who was Mick Jones' longtime girlfriend, but I don't think she was ever on television.

I'm gonna take a wild stab at the second part of this (only because Joe was rumored to have hooked up with her at one time) Annabella Lwin of Bow Wow Wow - I don't know if she would be considered a "punk diva" though. I know Palmolive wasn't a diva, either - so I'm pretty sure it wasn't her - that was a total stab in the dark, btw.

Do I have to turn in my official membership card now?

56. Regardless!!!!
It's a Clash question!!!

Anyway, it was inspired by 'The Harder They Come' with Jimmy Cliff.

The bass line in question is from 'Pressure Drop' by Toots & The Maytals.

I, on the other hand, love the song. Shit, I love everything on that album.

FWIW, Paul wrote some of the liner notes for the "Deluxe Edition" re-release of the soundtrack 'The Harder They Come'. Well worth getting if you love Reggae, and indispensable if you're interested in the early influences of The Clash.

In Paul's bio in the nifty booklet:

"A noted reggae aficionado, Paul Simonn is a founding member of The Clash and Havana 3AM. Since abandoning the world of Rock & Roll he has returned to his first love: painting. He currently lives and works in London where his most recent exhibition is a St James' gallery was a huge success."

You are corrrrect!

I lived in Spain as a kid, and am obsessed with anything about Spain. Good thing I love the "London Calling" album, or it would be pricey to buy it for just one song.

72. I dunno anything about the military, but I know the video was
shot in Austin, Texas! - Mick is in a pool while Joe is reading a Dick Tracy magazine in a chaise - Paul and Topper are also sitting by the pool. 'nuff said?

77. Let me bring You up on it
Yes it was shot in Austin Texas.

It was near Bergstrom AFB. I used to be stationed there.

The planes were the old RF-4, recon jets.

They were flying over Ben White Blvd.

Ahh, the good old days

74. What was the very first television commercial to use
"Should I Stay Or Should I Go?" on its soundtrack.

For the record, I don't know the answer. Must be millions to choose from.
