DU Flashback: John Thune
John Thune made DUers' gaydar go "woop woop woop!" back in November:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=105&topic_id=1978795#1978811

At the time it was entertaining banter since Thune is on the gay-bashing side of the aisle. But in the light of the fact that Gannon was working for his campaign, could there be more fun stuff going on in the family-values crowd than we ever dreamed of? Just idly speculating; that's why I've posted it to the lounge.

You know, if I live to be 100, I'll never understand closeted gay Republicans. C'mon out and join us! You can be yourself with us. It's so much nicer. Really.

HYPOCRITICAL, SELF-LOATHING gays. That they are willing to betray others of their own kind due to their self-loathing is the point. One does not need to "out" self-loathing blacks or Jews, as in most cases, it is quite obvious. In cases like Gonzales, or Blackwell, Clarence Thomas, or Jewish Neo-Nazis, it is/was obvious that those people are trying to deny what and who they are, and in so doing are betraying those who fought before them for the liberties and rights they are enjoying. In the case of the closeted, self-loathing homosexuals who are supporting Repuke anti-gay agendas, there is no obviousness to whom they are. "Outing" them is the only way to point out their hypocrisy and betrayal of all those who went before them and fought and suffered for the rights they enjoy today. They are endangering those rights and freedoms by their behavior. They are, in fact, supporting policies that would deny and reject these rights.

2. Very well-put.
I spent a lot of time in a chat with a French friend, explaining to him why the gay angle to the Gannon story is important. He said, "Your gay stories do not interest us." I told him that in a world that made any sense, it wouldn't matter, but here in the U.S. we don't live in that world. Here we have a President who rode to power on the votes of those who want to amend the Constitution to deny gays their rights. Therefore it is highly relevant when their operatives and toadies turn out to be gay. It is the deepest self-loathing.

"self-loathing" part that is what does the harm. Therefore whether you are gay or straight, you should want these people to be shone for what they are: hypocrites, liars, and evil...to the core.

EDIT. I think that might be "shown", not "shone".

4. A bright light should be shone on them...
that they be shown for who they are.
