Edited on Wed Feb-16-05 04:41 PM by egoprofit
without Nirvana we may still have HAIR BANDS. Nirvana revolutionized the music industry and brought fourth the grunge movement of the early 90's... if you don't care then please just ignore this post. thanks.

on edit: this only affects my generation. sorry.

82. For me, there are few things
First off, the appropriation of blues. Obviously he's not the only guilty party - it was the 60s after all, so that is not my main problem. There is the infamous 'Dazed and Confused', which was ripped off of Jake Holmes - who is still not credited to this day. Then there is the issue of style. Plant imitated Janis Joplin for most of his carreer, imo, as well Black Sabbath. I know that Led Zeppelin (initially) influenced Sabbath, but in the 70's, he seemed to be influenced BY Sabbath and the heavy metal sound.
Now, before I get flamed, I'm gonna shutup.

97. "(when not ripping off the blues)" -- That's it!
I do think he has talent and that the band is great. I just get so pissed off at Jagger and the rest of the folks who made hundreds of millions by using "The Delta Blues" AND never once, to my knowledge, recycled a share of the money for the benefit of the blues artists.

These guys in MS etc. are our national treasure. Think of America without all that the Blues has given us. Why couldn't the rock crowd from Elvis on down, put together a foundation to support or provide for the medical needs of these artists.

So f'em, Mick and "all the young dudes" who are so ungrateful to their artistic fathers and mothers.

58. It was between Gallagher and Morrison...
Had to go with Morrison because he is revered as a rock god... the only one who thinks of Liam Gallagher as a rock god is Liam Gallagher.

Diss Geddy and Gilmour all you want... it should be evident by now that they are both immortal.

Edited on Thu Feb-17-05 11:24 PM by Jamastiene
is what matters. And the MUSIC was great. Bottom line. Lots of people make bad decisions in their personal lives. It doesn't mean their music is any less valid...

BTW, my 64 year old aunt who has multiple sclerosis and cannot walk and lets me read the posts to her because she cannot sit up at the computer for long said you better watch out. She said to quit dissing Kurt Cobain because she'll kick yer a$$. :D

She couldn't really, but she said for me to post that.

The Doors, BTW, totally rocked and captured atmospheres that most bands can only dream of.

93. I love him but I still have to tell my favorite Bono joke
A rock and roll fan dies - he was a really good guy so he goes to rock and roll heaven. St. Peter is showing him around and the guy is freaking out.

"There's Jimi Hendrix, there's Janis Joplin, there's Elvis, there's..." Then he says, "Wait a minutes, Bono?? He's not dead, is he?"

St. Peter looks over to see who he's talking about and says, "Oh, that's not Bono; that's God. Some days he just seems to think that he's Bono!"

81. ok here goes
To quote "Almost Famous", Morrison Was a drunken buffoon.

Cobain is overrated because he fronted the first decent mainstream band since The Clash, and people were starved for decent stuff from mainstream music.

Rush sucks end of story.

Sammy Hagar and musician shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence.

Liam and his brother can go jump off a cliff. They've never been anything more than mediocre

Ozzy was ok with sabbath, but I suspect that had more to do wit Tony Iommi

Lenny Kravitz is so-so at best

David Gilmour and Pink Floyd are overrated.

Thom Yorke...your analysis is perfect.

Just because he's on the list I'd have to go with Hagar, but that's cheating. It's like putting Styx on a worst band ever list. You know they're going to get picked by the most people. Take hagar out and I'd go wit Morrison.

86. I have to go Lenny Kravitz by a hair.
His songs are terrible and are all the same. 2 to 4 line verses and endless repeat of the chorus. He sucks. Cobain would be next. Mindless, whiny, three chord nonsense that made an entire generation think it was cool to be a pussy. Next up is Sammy Hagar. Homophobic asshole with very little talent and annoying preachy lyrics in Van Halen. Just flat out bad songs when solo. "3 Lock Box" anyone? I didn't think so. I never listened to Gallagher but I know he sucks. Gilmour, Lee, Ozzy and Morrisson might be a tad overrated but have all put out quality, some might even say legendary, material. Never heard of the last guy at all, so he can't be overrated.

90. I met Lenny Kravitz once.
It was an industry function at the Motown museum. That man is seriously, inexplicably sexy. Maybe inexplicably is not precisely what I mean. What I mean is that all the women there - smart, normally well-behaved women, well, we all found ourselves weak-kneed and wanting desperately to be near him. It was pathetic. He must have some serious pheromones or something. I just cannot explain it.

I went with Morrison, because i don't like the Doors' music much. The only one i question on the list is Yorke. I'm ok with him. The rest belong on this poll, IMO. One other note: Remember that the wanker lyrics of Rush are mostly written by nutjob Randian, N. Peart.

121. I am playing to the crowd
I actually have all of Radiohead's work and like it quite a bit (well, except Amnesiac, that one kind of blows). All of the artists up there have at least a track or two that I like, except Morrison (he's a wanker of the first order), but it's fun to poke fun at all of them.

I think the main criticism of Radiohead/Yorke is that they moved away from more traditional guitar-driven rock with OK Computer (one of the best albums of any genre) and into click and whistle computer rock with Kid-A, Amnesiac, and Hail to the Thief. I know the Kid-A and Amnesiac records turned off a whole lot of people.

Sorry, but that self-indulgent loser with all his self-induced inflictions does nothing for me. I mean, in the very early days (pre Nevermind), they were a decent band, then they turned into a pretentious bunch of wankers who tried to look like Neil Young and sound like a bad punk band on a week long meth binge.
