An elad support thread, because dammit, he deserves one

The DU system has been shaky as of late, but anyone that's ever been involved in a live upgrade of software, linking to an entirely new database system, with thousands of users that never stop trying to access it, knows it's a friggin nightmare.

Instead of concentrating on the negatives, like so many users tend to do, lets look at the positive aspects for a change.

We have a killer search system, it's both fast and sorts results per forum. Emoticons are now clickable, you don't even have to know the codes any more, just click the emoticon you want and the software places it in your message via javascript. Sig lines are now optional for viewers with slower connections, or viewers that don't want to scroll through 1800 feet of screen real-estate to read what everyone has said so far. We have the new, and heavily abused, polling system. We can classify our threads as "General", "Question", "Article", etc, so once more people bother to select that option, the site will run even smoother. (A satire icon would be good, since a lot of DUers can't recognize satire when it slaps them in the face).

All of this falls on one person's shoulders, elad. I wouldn't even want his job as full time employment, yet he's banging away at this code trying to make everything work and our lives that much easier. In his free time.

As a former DB admin/DB programmer, I gotta say he's done a kickass job, and if you don't like it, you obviously don't appreciate how much work goes into a dynamic site like this one.

So here's a big :toast: to elad for all the work he's done, and all the work he'll be doing for the next few weeks.

He is working his ass off, and I know it is frustrating. These guys work so hard to make this site run smoothly, and the site works so well we don't even notice. I know this site is important to a lot of folks, so we need to realize and tell these guys how much we appreciate it.

that's why I posted this. I was sick of the negativity that surrounded "DU2", it was neither warranted, nor deserved.

So don't stress out over this too much, you can't please everyone, and you shouldn't expect to be able to. Most of us are with you, it's the old 80/20 rule, 20 percent of the users create 80 percent of the noise. Personally, I'm happy with the upgrade, the database driven search kicks ass, so especially congrats on getting that working.
