Laziest... kitten... ever....

I got my new girl Molly a few days ago. She's 4 months old. She sleeps ALL the time! All my other kittens used to go on tears and frolic and jump and climb and explore. But not Molly. She just curls up next to me, purrs and purrs, and just lays there.

I'm not complaining... but I just think it's weird. Anybody else have a super-lazy kitten?

2. Don't worry, it'll change

We adopted our kitty, Reese, about 3 months ago. At first all he did was sleep. Now, he tears ass all around the house. He is great, has a tremendous personality. I'll bet when yours gets settled you'll see a pretty lively (and content) cat.

And congrats on Molly, I didn't post on your other thread. Very cool.

4. I hope she livens up a bit...

it's fun to watch kittens go berserk.

Maybe she's just settling in from the stress of being separated from her littermates and coming to a new home with two other cats.

But she seems perfectly content. She's very friendly - had three friends over yesterday whom she's never met. She went to each and every one and laid in their laps for some snuggles. No apprehension at all. She even snuck out the back door... we called her, and she came right back in.

I've always dreamed of having a really big fat orange cat. Maybe she'll be the one - she doesn't seem to wanna exercise ;)

7. Get her some catnip

or some like treat. Mine loves to play with bottled water tops on the kitchen tile - that get him going. Out dog also really riles the cat up - they love each other. She'll start being active soon enough, I wager - usually when you are trying to sleep!

3. She's not a kitten anymore,

but my cat is super-lazy. She is a very small-framed cat, but she weighs a ton. She won't play or even jump down from the window ledge. She just sits up there and goes "Mwaaaah" until we get her down. That's the sound she makes, she doesn't meow like a normal cat. It is such a miserable sound!

ok, I take it back. YOUR cat is the laziest cat ever.

Even my past cats, no matter how old they were, were able to get up and down off things. LOL... I can't imagine a cat crying to be picked up and moved from a ledge. You win ;)

6. Has it been overcast where you live? Seriously...

I've noted that my cats often take note of the weather and sack in accordingly.

Although sometimes my little guys just go through very sleepy phases. Three years ago, when I first adopted my male Snowshoe, Dobbs, I thought he was Mr. Mellow. After about two weeks, when he was thoroughly oriented to his new environment and felt confident, he became Mr. Hell-on-wheels! Skidding on the hardwood floors, diving into the bed covers, jumping onto the bathroom sink -- the usual hijinx.

I'm sure that your Molly is just feeling very safe and secure and is simply getting her money's worth! Have you tried to interact with her with a piece of string or ribbon, etc.?

I have toys to play with her. She likes 'em, and responds normally. But in the absence of them, she just sleeps. And sleeps. And sleeps some more.

12. did molly just get her vaccinations when you got her?

She may be still a little groggy from that. Give her a week to fully bounce back, and to acclimate to her new surroundings. My brother's kitten was the same way when he got her: the vet said it was just a reaction from the vaccinations. Within a week she was tearing up the house.

She had her shots last Thursday or Friday, and she was neutered on Friday. Maybe that's it.

15. Little ones often need quite a lot of sleep

and, since she was so recently fixed and vaccinated, that'll make her a bit sluggish for a few days. If she seems happy and is eating and eliminating normally, she's fine.

Just like people, dogs and cats vary from individual to individual in their energy levels. Get a "da Bird" toy and see if that catches her attention (the fluttering of the feather teaser seems irresistable to most cats).

That should wake her up. Otherwise, remember she is doing what her body is telling her to do.

If she is sleeping that probably means she needs sleep. Cats do sleep a lot...They are my heroes. :pals:

mine's a wild child... one minute she'll be sleeping purring like a buzz saw in my lap... the next she'll be screaming accross the room, up and down the furniture LOL.
I'm betting yours is recovering from the vet work. She sure is cute.

19. One summer while living in a 2nd floor apt w/o air conditioning

my kitty cats, still about or under 1 year were all panting like crazy and were totally lathargic. So I took the crisper drawer out of the fridge and let each cat spend some time in there (door opened of course) and as soon as they cooled off...they raced around the apt like they were on fire!!! Only to come to a sudden halt, pant and lay about...!!
