My two cents on 'The Gates'
Overpriced, pompous bright orange prison-grade mu-mus being promoted as "art".

This isn't art.

It's littering.

Littering an otherwise decent park.

Not just litter. Graffiti artists often use bright orange too. I'm sure they're feeling smug and vindicated right now. Hell, they do their art for free. Why are they being persecuted and the two jokers who made 'The Gates' aren't?

So do all of the US prison institutions, at home or abroad, use that bright gaudy orange.

It's pollution.

And depending on which media whore says it, some dingbat with the same colored hair and her hubby spent 20~23 million. If that isn't pompous, then nothing is.

1. Prepare to be flamed
I completely agree with you. Central Park is beautiful as it is. The prsion orange bedsheets don't help.

3. It IS art. You just happen to think it's BAD art.

As I said on another thread, "art" is merely a label, like "music" or "dance". It's not inherently saying it's great or worthy of your time.

You're basing your opinion on having actually seen it, right?

4. I don't like it, then again, nobody liked Van Gogh during his time...
...so we could be wrong. Only time will tell if stuff like this is actually good or bad.

5. I'm finding I'm liking it more than I thought I would.
I like the orange peering through the dark network of branches (luckily they did this in the winter). I like that the park was packed with people and that people all over the city were talking about ART, which is not a discussion that comes up often enough. And it will be gone in two weeks (would that were true of Bush).

6. Agreed
Saw the 60 min segment on The Gates.

I'm not certain it adds to the Park, but people are at least talking about art.

I like the orange..for now...as the Illinois Illini are 25-0 and they are the Orange Crush.
