4. I love to collect beautiful ornaments...
and I have an exquisite collection. I had no intention of leaving my tree up past Mardi Gras, but, oh well. :toast:

Me, too.
I always buy something meaningful from every trip we go on, and I have a lot of antique ones that were my grandmother's.

I love having the tree up, but here in VA for some reason, people put their decorations up right after Thanksgiving and start taking them down the 26th of December.

When I lived in CT, it was not at all unusual to see people with their Christmas lights still glowing and breaking the February gloom.

14. I've noticed that, too.
At least a couple of weeks into January, everyone used to still have their trees up.

Perhaps it's part of the commercialization of the holiday--that now, when you walk into department stores, they already have Valentines and Easter stuff out by the beginning of January.

Ahhh well. I'll take it down tonight. :-)

19. I think it is because everybody has to get the tree UP before the
Thanksgiving weekend is over. Not me, mine never goes up before the 15 of December. I put my outside lights up before I put up the tree.

22. That's usually when I put mine up...a week before Christmas.
Well, I'd better get off DU and get busy. Gonna pack the ornaments now. :(

27. trees supposed to come down on Jan 6, the Epiphany!
Memory blurs but it was never proper to my knowledge in the U.S. south to leave trees up "a couple of weeks into January," they were supposed to come down when the kings arrived on the 6th of January.

Hence the song about the 12 days of Christmas.

11. Have you ever caught any of my...
"Talk me into getting up off my ass and cleaning my house" threads?

Indeed, I always need encouragement. I hate "inside" duties...would much rather be doing stuff outside. :-)

20. Thank you! It was just a bad year all around! Of course I did
not have very much stuff out this year, so I had no excuse at all for leaving it up until the end of January....

HOWEVER!!!!! My white fairy lights are still up, I have decided I like them; many of the Mexican families around here have some sort of little lights year round, so I may just leave them.

Of course I could put up green ones with them for St Patrick's. pastel ones for Easter, Red/blue ones for the "Patriotic Season" etc.

But that would be actually organized....so don't hold your breath.

As for me, I just need to give my kitchen a good once over and do some laundry ..

it won't be perfect but it will be an improvement..

(that is my housecleaning, yard working motto!)

23. Yeah do it
or at least put the ornaments away so they don't get broken. I just took mine down last Saturday. I try to get it down before the first in-house birthday of the year which is Feb 7. I dream of getting it up between Dec 5 and 10, (and down by mid Jan.)cards out by the 10th as well. Usually end up doing the tree 23rd or 24th. Cards, wll sometimes they are New Years cards. haha

Lights that are outside generally stay - they are good for summertime parties/bbqs. Heck two sets of inside lights stay up for the same reason!

25. take the tree down or tell people you're French
What's the deal with the Christmas tree still up in front of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris on January 31? For all I know, it's still up!
