"I went back to Ohio/But my city was gone"
"Oh Me Oh My Oh/There goes Miss Ohio/Drivn' around with the ragtop down"
Ohio..celebrating 200 years of statehood.
http://www.ohio200.org/Two Hundred years old this year.. The first state created from the Northwest Territory (and the first to pass through territorial status prior to statehood)....
...the first state of what was to becom the Middle West...the heartland of America. Which is why I sort of like this "bicentennial barns" project:
http://www.ohio200.org/barns/.Lots of famous folks from Ohio, including a few presidents.
One thing about Ohio is that if you are not from here or havnt lived here you dont really realize what a diverse state this is...it is very urbanized..(at least 6 metro areas with a population over 100,000 and four with a population over 1,000,000) and very rural, too (inlcuding the appalachian part of the state..with forests and hills and coal mines...just like W VA or KY).
Culturally diverse, too...the "new emigration" is hitting here too..and Toledo has developing an urban latino/mexican barrio.
So, 200 years of Ohio...traditionally a Republican state, but also sent two good, solid Democrats to the Senate....John Glenn and Howard Metzenbaum.
