Thinking about switching to a Mac? Check out some new features...
Edited on Fri Feb-11-05 02:29 AM by mrbassman03
These are in the upcoming release of Tiger... Of course, these don't count the amazing features OS X already has.

Click on the little icons at the top to see each feature.

2. The irony is...
That once Apple gets to the point where it's comparable to windows in the amount of people using it, then Macs won't be impervious to viruses and spywear like they are now.

3. bullshit
I see you have heard from the "security through obscurity" side. It's bullshit, OS X is a much more secure operating system.

9. To say OS X is more secure than winblows is damning with faint
praise. The problem is thinking because it hasn't happened it won't.

16. There won't be any Irony--
Edited on Fri Feb-11-05 04:18 PM by Rooktoven
The fact is that Mac OS X is based on BSD Unix (and in fact _is_ BSD below the GUI). This means that spyware and viruses can't run without explicit permission from the Super User. Windows allows process to be called by on the system level by programs, even if the user running them has no rights to make system changes.

It is a question of architecture. Windows was meant as a stand alone system, and they added (from BSD, I might add) networking. Unix (or unix-like systems) was designed from day one to be networked and to isolate user permissions from interfering with the system. Any Unix like system-- Mac OS X, Linux, or FreeBSD, has that structural strength.

So will there be more viruses or spyware for Amcs and Linux systems-- probably, but not nearly the number of "successful" --read destructive ones as Windows gets.

I've quit feeling sorry for Windows users with viruses and spyware. If you feed Microsoft, you deserve to have bad things happen to your computer.

5. Ummmmm, nope...
If $500 for a Mac Mini is Rolls Royce, fine... but they are way more affordable now than they ever were.

7. Whatever the new imac will work with any monitor, keyboard or mouse
with a USB. For $500 you can have a nice cute little mac, with some of the best programs you can imagine.

You can do anything with the new macs; make a magazine, a song, a movie, a book, They completely rule and don't buy into that programs don't run on a mac bullshit, with the exception of some games and a few specialized professional programs, like at my hubby's laboratory, everything will run on a mac. Heck you can run windows on a mac if you want, I have no clue WHY you would choose windows over OSX is beyond me but you could if you wanted too.

I wish we could buy some apple stock, they are doing very well.

11. Check out the new features at Alienware
http://www.alienware.com/Product_Pages/desktop_all_home_office.aspx

No fuss, no muss, lots of power, reload all of your WIN XP stuff and be up and running in an hour.

BTW, we've had $499 PC's for years, and for the average user, they've already graduated to faster feature packed systems.
