Rant
I just need to get some stuff off my chest.

Monday, I got a phone call from my daughter's preschool, apparently head lice are going around and supposedly she got them. Had stuff to do but couldn't since I had to pick her up and de-louse her.

Tuesday, I take my parents to the airport, and head back to their house (they needed to have their furnace replaced). I am almost back to their house and I get a call on my cell, telling me to pick my mom up, since she forgot her driver's license and was not going to be allowed on the plane (thanks a lot TSA and the laws that invoked you!). Head back to the airport, get almost there, and get a call from my dad saying that they will let her on without her license because she has some credit cards with her (all this at between 6 and 7 AM).

I head back to their house, hoping that I did not miss the furnace guys. Well the furnace guys were late, no big deal, right? The furnace guys get there and are about 1/2 way through when my son calls me from school, needing to be picked up since he has a migraine and has thrown up. I tell him I can't leave because the furnace guys were still there, and I was also waiting for a call from the electrician who needed to hardwire the furnace in. GRRR

My husband was in meetings all day and could not go pick my son up, so the poor child had to wait. The furnace guys finally get done, and I still have not received the call from the electrician. I call the furnace place and try to find out why the electrician has not called and telling them that I am upset. Woman on phone is very nice, promises me that she will look into it and have the electrician call on my cell, so I can go get my son.

Electrician never calls, my son gets home and sleeps off the migraine (at least that is what I thought). Dinner time comes, my son starts to have the headache again, and throws up two more times. Ok, so this is serious now. I take him to urgent care, who sends me to the ER of the local children's hospital. On the way, he throws up again. We get to the hospital and he throws up again, pain is so intense at this time that he says he wants to die.

Thank you for letting me rant.

2. They gave him a shot
and he got over the migraine very fast. Poor kid (14 years old) has had migraines since he was 4. This episode, by far was the worst. I think it is time to see the neurologist again, because they seem to be coming more frequently and worsening in intensity.

3. I'm sorry to hear that!
But I'm glad he's doing okay for right now. My sister (10) has had the same thing going on for about 2 or 3 years now as well. To make matters worse, she plays softball and they intensify when she does that. Have they prescribed him any kind of medication to take on a regular basis?

5. he has been on Midrin
but it does not seem to work, OTC ibuprofen seems to work better. His pediatrician wants to avoid prescribing any of the "triptans" for the headaches. He and I also want to avoid the beta blockers (as prevention) since they mess with hemodynamics.

8. Hopefully you'll find something that'll help him soon.
I know my sister was started on Imitrex but had some kind of reaction to it. They eventually put her on Zomig (sp?) and it's seemed to really help her out. Normally she throws up and then goes right to sleep for an hour or so and wakes up like nothing happened. Good luck with everything and hope he feels better soon!

And as for the lice thing - good luck! With three girls all in school, when I was growing up, I think we ended up having it a total of 5 times. The elementary school we all went to kept having bad outbreaks of it and thank goodness we eventually moved. It's such a pain in the butt to wash everything. Make sure to get the pillows too!

7. I've heard that puberty's changes can really increase
the frequency and severity of migranes. Here's hoping you have a better day today!

4. Regarding the head lice
...we have never had it here, but hubby worked for a company years ago that invented RID. Since your daughter is so little and it is a neurotoxin, may I suggest an alternative? If you smother her hair/scalp with mayonnaise and then put a shower cap, bathing cap on it, the lice will all die. Then wash her hair in the morning, and the nits should be easier to pick out.

Good luck. I hear that lice alone is a nightmare, and coupled with another sick one....I wish you well!!!

9. already did the RID thing, to satisfy her preschool
Part of the rant that I did not post, was the fact that RID triggered my asthma, and the fact that when I checked her hair, I could not find any lice, nor could I find any nits. So I spent half a day de-lousing a child, who, in my determination did not have them in the first place! There were several kids that did, but, oh well...

11. You poor thing.
We have had several close calls with the lice thing, and I don't envy you. I would think it would be awful.

Hopefully, the rest of the week will be better.
