I've had a rough day.
I overslept, left my ID in my room, and was damn near late for class. I missed what should have been an easy question in a prcatice quiz in media aesthetics, (even though it didn't matter we all got full points just for taking it), my psychotic Comm theory prof reiterated her proscription of contractions in papers for her cless.

There's half a bottle of Navy Rum in front of me. Please convince me not to finish it off tonight.

2. Here is one thing in your favor...
you have a clue as to what "proscription of contractions" means...

four years of college and grad school through a.b.d. (all but dissertation) and I have no idea what that means.

:toast: (just don't finish the bottle - or it is likely that tomorrow will start out even worse... )

3. It means this...

If we use contractions, (i.e. can't, won't) in our papers, she will automatically dock 1/3 of a grade level off our papers.

Complete and utter bullshit, if you ask me. I'm asking some of my old profs for a second opinion, and if they agree with me, I will make my case to her to have her policy reversed.

I know, it would mean me risking making an enemy out of her for the rest of my academic career, but I know it would be worth it in the end.

5. The end (getting folks to write without the contractions)
is a good one (things really do read much better - and sound more literate - when writing things out instead of using contractions) - but the 1/3 off seems a rather extreme way of trying to coerce that end.
