"Bye, Bye,
Miss American Pie
Drove the the Chevy
To the Levy

.....the day that it died"

Don McLean? I'm not sure.

What did that song mean to you and was it political?

Is anyone else being haunted by a particular song, an artist, etc?

Please let this be a serious discussion.

1. Yes
it's Don McLean.

When I heard the song as a child, I presumed it was about JFK, but I've heard other interpetations that said it was about the death of Buddy Holly. Who knows? It's a great song whatever it's about.

3. I think it's the minors
The minor chords in the song have a "sad" feel that might resonate with you right now. It might not be the lyrics at all.

4. Don McLean
has stated that he wouldn't ever reveal the meanings of all the symbols in the song "American Pie", but most believe it is referring to rock and roll icons, from Buddy Holly (his plane crash was called 'The Day The Music Died') to Dylan (the jester on the sidelines in a cast), the Beatles (Sergeants played a marching tune), and the Rolling Stones (no angel born in hell could break that Satan's spell).
