What do you think of Maynard Keenan?

A second question, for the fans: Tool or A Perfect Circle?

3. I think I have to agree, at least recently.
Tool has the best album between the two bands, but I do think APC has the better material in total.

4. Yea
I never really got into Tool. I do have Undertow and Aenama(?)but I prefer the style of APC, for sure. Songs like Orestes and The Noose never get old.

2. I refuse to choose
Huh? You said what?

What do you mean I still have made a choice? We're not talking about Rush here, dude. Unlike Getty Lee, Maynard outgrew Ayn Rand before leaving puberty. ("Gee, Rob. Why don't you like Ayn Rand? She's so cool." "I used to like her too, dude." "What happened, Rob?" "I turned 13, man." "Aw, man just read 'Atlas Shrugged' again!" "I already know the ending, man. Now quit playing Humphrey with that Bogart ...")

Tool and APC are different projects and the differences are made all the more striking by their similarities. I think APC's latest is Maynard's weakest work musically ... he was clearly pissed off (may all the Gods bless him) and clearly trying some new sounds out and sometimes it is best not to mix the two experiments. Even so, its not all misses ... the opening cut is haunting and in a bizarre way tender, and how can you not like a tune with a title like "Counting Bodies like Sheep to the Rythm of the War Drums?" I myself find that entirely forgiveable, for at age 49 I have finally figured out two things:

1) There is never enough good, gut wrenching, brain hammering make ya think/hurt music around and we must be grateful always for those who do it well.

2) I talk too much.
