Okay, so I'm going to start painting again tommorow...
Edited on Mon Feb-07-05 10:26 PM by Longgrain
I cleaned out some space in my basement over the weekend, dug out some of my old paints (many of the tubes that are five years old are still good) I still got to buy some canvases and turps, and maybe a few new brushes but I am ready!

I owe it mostly to the encouragement of my fellow DUers who weren't too annoyed by my painting threads and encouraged me to get back out there and do something!

:hi:

2. Good luck Violet!
It took me a while to get started up again.

Once I have anything worth presenting I'll be sure to post it down in the Artists Group...:hi:

5. Thanks... you too. :)
My mom is compelling me to do it. You see, she has a big space on a wall in her apartment in Miami, and she saw these paintings she really likes, but seeing that I'm an artist and all (and she likes my paintings better anyway), I should be the one that paints the painting. How can I argue with that? ;)

I actually started it a couple of months ago but I was, er, temporarily sidetracked. :)

I tease her about what I'm going to include in the painting.

I'll post a pic when I'm done too.

6. I'm laughing, my parents house is jammed with my artwork!
Yet for years my mother pestered me to do a painting for her of the lilac bush in front of our house, since she loves lilacs.

I took me about ten years, but last summer I finally got around to it...

You did get a good painting out of it. :)
My mom is the only person that can get away with dictating the terms of a painting to me. Actually, she's the only one who dares to.

I could never get away with blowing her off for 10 years. She asks me about the painting EVERY time we talk. I kinda feel like I should be working on it right now. LOL

9. Once again LOL
Actually it's my best friend Suzanne who has been needling me into get painting again...she's seen my art and keeps asking "Why don't you paint anymore?" Over the summer I finally decided to give into her wishes...

And lately a lot of folks here on DU have been helping me as well.

:)

Longgrain, I'm glad you paint better than you spell (correction: tommorow is actually spelled tomorrow). :-)

And, as you know, I spell better than I paint. :D

I'm so glad you're painting again!

Bravo!

11. painting = fun times
granted, your style's a bit different than mine (just a bit too real for my warped head), but it's always good to see some oil painters out there...

17. whereas when i'm painting...
It's some brushes, some paint, and me, and me again, and oh look! there's another me! Then I try and listen to all of them at once and something comes out on the canvas.

They fight a heck of a lot... can't keep them in line, ever...

18. Forming a picture is the hardest part!
You got to keep rumbling with the paints to get an image, and even the then the image may not reflect "what you are seeing"...

For me, I hope the painted image equals what I'm seeing in some respect...

19. The thing with abstract painting is
You're seeing so many things coming at you at once... so the hardest part is creating a composition out of all that's being thrown at you.

21. that's abstracted
but not totally abstract.

maybe i should have said non-objective, though i'm not fond of that term

at any rate... paintings with no recognizable objects.

24. Unless you paint for a living
If you want to keep the "fun" in painting, keep it as a hobby and nothing more! Horrid deadlines and the pressure of "creativity on demand" can make painting sheer hell.

26. Hmm
I'm going into photography, already used to the deadlines... with painting, I doubt I'd be able to make a deadline :(

been more into doing photography than painting, pottery or jewelry. So I don't need as much space. Like the Nike commercials say "Just Do It"

I do a lot of writing too, which has been my passion over the last few years, so not as much time for painting or photography...

I am looking forward to moshing around in the oils again tho!

22. If you are an artist & not doing your art....
you are starving your soul...

I know, I've done it to myself too many times in my life.

I just got a lecture from a couple of friends that I have not been writing enough....go for it.
I'm trying to work on my art...you work on yours.

25. Good Lord
you've probably posted nearly a thousand times about your art...I thought that's what you were doing ALL DAY, EVERY DAY. The only guy I know who talks as much about his own work is one of my former students who paints 14 hours a day! No excuses-either do it or teach (you know the saying).
