2. Just a little shaker
Kind of like a butt massage in my computer chair. Nothing large, probably in the 3 to 3.5 area. They're fun like that - I find it so fascinating that the earth can just suddenly convulse - makes you appreciate the fact that we're just little parasites here. And though we think we have things under control, we're just fooling ourselves.

7. Didn't feel anything near Sacramento
C'mon skygazer. A 3 or 3.5 isn't anything to get shook up about.

We Californian don't jump at anything less than 4.25.

16. When you go to the site, the map is live. Put your cursor on a circle
and it will tell you when the quake was, about where, and the magnitude. There has been a whole lotta shaking going on in that part of the world since the big waves.

8. Gosh, you guys are quick! Thanks.
I love this place.

I wouldn't have thought it was a strong as a 4.4 - perhaps because I'm in the mountains, it lessened the intensity (not that 4.4 is that intense but it really felt like a 3 or so).

12. I know this sounds weird
But I've always wanted to feel and earthquake. I live in Wisconsin so I've obviously never felt one. I'm fascinated by natural disasters for some morbid reason. I think it's amazing that something with so much power can just happen. I also want to live through a hurricane too, closest I got was a tropical storm when I did a semester in Orlando a few years ago.

Glad to hear you're OK and there was no damage :)

13. If and when you come to California
Edited on Sat Feb-05-05 01:58 PM by nothingshocksmeanymo
spend a few days in Hollister...that is right near where the San Andreas and Calaveras faults come together and there is earthquake activity near there pretty regularly although mild

btw...I LOVE earthquakes although the LANDERS one scared the shit out of me as it was the first time my refrigerator walked across the kitchen floor while the lights arced on and off

14. I don't think it sounds weird at all
I'm fascinated by severe weather and natural phenomena. I grew up in Vermont and I used to go out into the pasture and sit on a high hill and watch the thunderstorms come booming down the valley - a little crazy but not really because they tended to follow the paths of the mountains to either side.

When I was 17, I hitchhiked across country and there was a tornado warning in Okalahoma - I went out walking around to try to catch a glimpse of it (that WAS stupid but I didn't see anything - just very high winds and a black sky - pretty cool).

I went through a hurricane while I lived in Alabama and that was impressive as hell. It's the one and only time I've heard the emergency broadcast signal and had them say, "This is NOT a test..."

When I moved to California, I was very eager to feel my first quake - not because I hope for mayhem but because I wanted to feel what they're like. And they are neat - to feel the earth move beneath you is so odd - like being on the ocean almost. Some of them go from side to side, others are like waves. It's fascinating.

So, no, I don't think you sound weird. You sound just like me. Oh, wait a minute - I AM weird. Never mind.....
