Fixing the Bond franchise

Ok it has come it now that they will be making the next movie without Brosnan. It will be Casino Royale as Tarentino suggested but they are using the director from GoldenEye so I don't expect much.

But it came to me in a flash last night how to fix Bond.

Set it in the 60's . Period. Bond does not belong past the cold war and he really only works best in the 60's. That way he can have unprotected sex, manhandle women and wear a hat and still seem cool.

That and cast Phillip Seymour Hoffman in the part. He would be the coolest Bond ever.

I am serious.

1. I actually liked GoldenEye.

I'm not a Bond purist by any means, and I thought Brosnan was the best Bond since Connery.

5. I have nothing against Brosnan

Even though Connery was the best.

They are looking for someone younger of course. The next Bond will probably be about 23 to hit that target demographic.

Too be honest, with the exception of Licence to Kill, I haven't seen any of the post Moore films and the last few of those really sucked.

And I haven't seen any of them in a theater since the horror that was MoonRaker. Worst Bond film period.

4. Yeah, I haven't been able to sit through a Bond film in years...

I am enjoying the new Bourne films though. I think Bourne may be the new Bond and Matt Damon may be the new Sean Connery.

I enjoyed those more than I've ever enjoyed Bond.

The appeal of Bond to me is how irrevant it can be at times. Yes, most of them are goofy, but there's nothing wrong with some goofy entertianment now and then that brings out the kid in you.

Even set in the 60's, the whole ubermacho womanzier schtick only seems workable in a comedic setting.

8. Quite. If the films aren't funny, they're nothing.

And they're struggling to be funny.

Having watched all of the films recently i
actually think the new ones are by far the
best with golden eye the best of them.
