Anyone have SBC DSL?
My stupid connection is not connecting or dying all morning. Every time I check the computer, it's off again and won't re-connect right away. :(

1. I do.
I called them the other day when I was having problems with mine and they were accessible and helpful. Try it.

2. Got it a couple weeks ago
No significant problems yet for me. Is this a recurring problem for you?

9. Here's some info from their one of their Help pages
Which coincides with some of the advice in other posts below....

If you suddenly lose connectivity over your DSL line, or are unable to browse the Internet despite indications that you are connected, it is possible that your modem has lost synchronization with the equipment in our Central Office.

The first step you should try to resolve this issue is to reboot your computer and power cycle your DSL modem and/or router. This is the first step that our customer care agents will walk you through when you call tech support with a connectivity problem. You may save yourself some time by trying this step first before calling tech support.

Steps 1-3 are for external DSL modems, routers and external networking devices. Skip to Step 4 if you have an internal DSL modem and no router/external networking devices.

1. Turn off the modem if it has an on/off switch. Once the modem has been turned off, the modem lights will be unlit.
2. Unplug the modem from its power source.
3. If you are using a router, hub or other networking devices, turn off those devices and unplug them.
4. Turn off the computer connected to the DSL Internet modem. Go through the standard shutdown sequence first, then completely turn off the machine. Do not immediately restart.
5. Leave all devices un-powered and off for at least 10 seconds.
6. Turn the computer back on. The computer will go through the standard boot-up process. Wait until these have been completed.
7. Plug the modem and any other networking devices back in and turn them on. The modem lights will flash through yellow and green as the modem established the DSL connection.

17. Thanks.
I just did all this and it still took several tries to connect. Oh well, I've got to take a nap in another hour and a half anyway. Hopefully, it'll be better by Sunday.

I'd call service, but I'm not in the mood to be on hold for who-knows-how-long and then have my ex getting pissed at me for messing with 'his stuff'. (A whole separate issue, but since I'm about to move in less than a month, I really am just trying to "get along" the best I can right now for the kids and not make waves.) His problem to deal with later I figure.

3. I do, and that could be anything.
When I first connected my connection sucked too. But I'd moved into a new (old) house that had funky wiring, which I didn't find out until I had a SBC tech come out to my house and go thru all the circuits and sorted them out. After that, no more problems.

The wiring insurance that you can pay for on your regular bill (cheap) paid for the two hours that the SBC tech spent going through all the sockets in the house.

4. I have it
You might have to hard boot your modem. Just shut it down for a few minutes and then turn it back on.

6. Rarely have problems but when I do its for a few hours
or them trying to double the price! (If they do, call up and get real mean, they will lower the price.)

7. yeah, it sucks
My AOL dialup was more reliable. And, don't get me started on having to download each & every attachment separately... we had over 400 pictures from China that my wife had emailed from her work laptop to our home PC and I ended up creating a temporary new AOL account so I could download a ZIP file instead of 400 separate pictures.

However, my DSL was really terrible when we first got it. I called tech support at least 3-4 times a week. SBC ended up determining that my modem did not have some sort of upgraded software that I was supposed to get. They sent out a technician to install the software for free.

13. I think I'm switching to Cox when I move.
I'm moving in about a month and I found out I get cable, internet, and phone through them for $99 a month. I wasn't even going to get cable (I'm not much of a TV person), but the internet will be better and it's not a bad price for the package. I'm working all this weekend anyway, so someone else can deal with it if it keeps doing it.

8. I used to have it. Not too many problems.
The tech-people were pretty good when I was having problems, but that was a couple of years ago. I do prefer the cable connection that I'm using now.

10. We had a similar problem a few weeks back with our SBC DSL.
Apparently someone was sending spam from a block which contains our address.

SO was on the phone with them for quite a while and we eventually got our service back.

Now that I think of it, we were not able to send any email but the internet worked ok. Still, they were helpful in getting it sorted out.

11. Do you have virus protection? Are you running xpII?
If so you might have 2 firewalls interfering with connectivity. When I downloaded the XPII service pak, I had to rework a lot of things with an SBC rep.

14. We had the same issue, but it was taken care of 4 months ago.
Hopefully, it's just a local network problem or something.

12. Yes, and so far, no trouble
But for some reason, the other day, it would not log into the SBC Yahoo browser. I was forced to use Internet Exploder.

15. Signed up for it 3 weeks ago
Nothing but a nightmare. It still won't work. Many phone calls, tech support calls and a home visit for help with installation and it still won't work. It just says "Modem not trained." Good thing I'm still connected to comcast. All this bs to save $22 a month.

16. I have it
for 2 years now, and I've never had a problem. I've lived in 2 places since I got it and in both places it's been fine.
Try shutting down your modem for a bit and then rebooting it.
