Is the Sex Pistols song "Bodies" pro-life?
I just saw another argument about that on another forum.

1. I always thought it was an anti abortion song.
Never saw the issue addressed by the SPs though.

4. I think that's pretty obvious.
She was a girl from birmingham
She just had an abortion
She was a case of insanity
Her name was pauline she lived in a tree

She was a no one who killed her baby
She sent her letters from the country
She was an animal she was a bloody disgrase

Body I知 not an animal
Body I知 not an animal

Dragged on a table in factory
Illegitimate place to be
In a packet in a lavatory
Die little baby screaming fucking bloody mess
It痴 not an animal it痴 an abortion

Body I知 not animal
Mummy I知 not an abortion
Throbbing squirm, gurgling bloody mess
I知 not an discharge, I知 not a loss in
Protein, I知 not a throbbing squirm

Fuck this and fuck that fuck it all and
Fuck the fucking brat
She don稚 wanna baby that looks like that
I don稚 wanna baby that looks like that

Body I知 not an animal
Body I知 not an abortion
Body I知 not an animal
An animal
I知 not an animal...
I知 not an abortion...

Also, it's by far their most rockin' tune.

6. Absolutely Not
Edited on Wed Feb-02-05 01:38 PM by no name no slogan
Read Lydon't autobiography "No Blacks, No Dogs, No Irish" to get the full picture.

The song is perportedly about a girl Lydon knew who was in and out of mental hospitals most her life. She would continually get pregnant when she was in the hospital, and the song is about her life and all the sh!t she went through as a ward of the state.

The song is neither pro-life or pro-choice, it's just a song about a poor, messed-up woman who lived in a decaying welfare state.

EDIT FOR: Autobio title.

8. It certainly is ambiguous.
I always thought there was a peculiar turn in the song when he sings "She don't want a baby that looks like that/I don't want a baby that looks like that." The whole mood of the song changes on those two lines. It might be just accidental, but it made the song less apparently didactic and more in dialogue with itself. (Course it might just be me overintellectualizing a barbaric yawp.)

7. Wow, I wondered that at age 16...
...I thought it certainly sounded so. But I was wrong about another song by another artist on this issue, so perhaps it is not indeed.
