3. I honestly do not know, LOL!
And I've been a member of FR for almost two years! It's a really tough site to navigate, especially compared to DU. I think that the "ping" may relate to a hot topic, but don't quote me on this.

4. Why don't you ask?
I asked about Kick and n/t when I got here. You might not want to ask right away because if they figure out you double dip, well, you know.

6. yikes
I only visit there when pointed there by people here. Registering there would require that I soak myself in a saturated solution of hydrofluoric acid for a week.

8. You mean I should ask them? But I have belonged for two years
Yikes! I try to keep a pretty low profile there, LOL! I do ask the occasional question, trying just to figure out where they are possibly coming from, and raise some doubts. Not all the people on FR belong there, but I certainly can't post the DU URL for them. I came very close to getting in trouble there, when I did take a stand, defending John Kerry's military record. Most people actually backed down, except for one crazy guy, and I got a couple of apologies, but I haven't gone back there since. Surely someone else will know, since I'm not the only DU member who also belongs to FR.

11. It got harder and harder
And, to be honest, I felt rather unclean when I came back after posting there. I do have a strong constitution, but the Republican Convention did me in. I just knew I couldn't keep my temper after that fiasco. So I haven't been back there, since.

5. It's the machine that goes *piiiiiiing*
That means your baby is still alive.

Actually, I don't have a clue what it means, because I don't go to FR 'often enough'. Perhaps it's a way of contacting one member or another?

when you own a 69 396 Chevell with fuely heads and 12 to 1 compression high test is worth a war or two.

12. Ping
is somewhat like the "My Posts" area on DU. But instead of just seeing your posts, you can sign up for "ping lists".

The administrators of the Ping lists, who can be any user, will put the topic into your "ping" folder when it meets the goals of the group (Lists can be for evolution, all topics regarding a specific state, etc.)

In addition, members of a ping list can "ping" the administrator to let them know that the entire list needs to be alerted.

13. Pinging is sending a message to somebody
That an article may interest them.

There are loads of ping-lists, which focus on one topic (e.g., the Homosexual Agenda ping-list) where the person running that list will look for any article dealing with the topic and will let the members know to read it.

14. actually, i've belonged here for about a year now
and there's still some weird acronyms/phrases that i don't understand. maybe there should be an official DU jargon page where somebody can explain things like n/t, eom, and kick. because i still can't figure those out.

if they are there (think sonar ping from a submarine or ASW platform). It's very common on usenet.
