Poll question: What do you think of bowling as a date?
Edited on Wed Feb-02-05 03:33 AM by Radical Activist
So I went out to a movie (Hotel Rwanda, go see it) with a woman and somehow bowling came up in the conversation. She mentioned that she loves bowling, and as it turns out I've been jonesing to go bowling for months. So, we're going this weekend. Although its kind of corny and I haven't taken a girl bowling since I was in High School, I'm really looking forward to it. I just have this urge to bowl lately. I think my inner midwesterner is trying to come out.

Do you like going bowling as a date? Have you ever done that?
I'm not looking for advice, just wondering how other people view bowling.

2. As long as you are both mutually consenting adults...
Hey, she wants to go, you want to go, so go! It's not like you're springing it on her as a surprise--that would suck.

5. Oh yeah, she practically begged me to take her bowling
I would never suggest it as a date, except that she requested it. I'm not worried about that. I'm interested in what people think about it though. Bowling has a certain stigma to some people.

She may have wanted to see if you share the same interests (you do). Also, she may have wanted to see if you were willing to indulge her in her interests (you clearly will). A+

10. and then I moved to Mass. where Bowling is an Excercise in Masochism
tiny pins, the size of candles, and tiny balls that can easily
go right through the middle without hitting any of them.
What sadistic bastard invented candlepin bowling?

Who would inflict that on a date?

17. I've never heard of that
How sad. There is something very midwestern about bowling. I like that. Dennis Kucinich was a big bowler. So was Paul Simon.
In downtown Chicago, right in the loop, you can go to a hip bowling bar full of trendy young people and bands on the weekend.

15. I'm not a bowler, so am very poor at this
(though I am Polish), but I did go on a bowling date, a couple of times, and did enjoy it. It's not important that you do well, but just that you have plenty to do and to talk about. Sounds like a good idea to me, especially if this girl loves it, and actually suggested it, and you want to do it. What are you waiting for?!:-)

Actually, I think its a good idea. Its casual, fun, it gets you up and moving. Beats sitting in some restaurant with the dreaded 'akward silence'

21. Bowling is a blast
I used to do "Rock 'n Bowl" semi-frequently in New Orleans. There they close it to anyone under 21, bring in some great jazz bands, have a dance floor, and an old bowling ally. Its a blast, and as someone else said, there's mroe to do than try to think of something to say, and there's more interaction than at a movie.

Of course in my current town I bowl as its the only spot in the area that doesn't close at midnight. Since its the only place you can get beer after 11:45, its good by default.

23. other
I took a woman bowling for a date once. It was her idea. I kind of like bowling, because it isn't something I care about doing particularly well, so I can just have fun at it. Bowling turned into billiards, another game I just play to play. That turned into dinner.

So, all in all, it was a pretty good first date.

have fun!

25.  other
for the 2nd date both of you wear bowling outfits and don't forget the personalized bowling ball bags and go to a really trendy yuppy resteraunt where you feel real uncomfortable with everyone acting snotty towards you. This gives both of you a chance to see how you opperate under pressure. If this goes off without a hitch get engaged and have the first DU wedding, then we can all go bowling at it

28. I love bowling as a date. Believe it or not, I think it can bring an
intimacy to a new relationship. There is a lot of personal interaction, and if one doesn't take one's bowling seriously, it can be as fun as all hell.

29. I think bowling for a date is a great idea. The fact that it isn't
normally done, is what makes it so cool and fun.

It might be corny, but it's also low-key and fun.

a huge dork and she admits it. I think you're right. There are some women I wouldn't ask to go bowling. Those women are not as fun to date though.

34. Go for it then
Like you said, there are probably some girls who would be aghast at the suggestion, and other girls who would have a great time. IMO, it's a pretty chill, laid back date where you can have some fun.
