I didn't want to know that! Can I say something to the boss? Hey man, it's bad enough I gotta be here but why do I need to know that I'm getting fatter? What are your thoughts on it? :puke:

2. Seriously, though...
People worry way too much about their gravitational relationship to the Earth.

Do you feel good? How do your clothes fit? What kind of news did you get from your last blood work? Can you walk up a quarter-mile incline without being out of breath? Can you pick up a bag of cement without dying of exhaustion?

Much more important stuff to consider than whether you're up or down five pounds, methinks.

9. Well, while a basic free-weight set isn't very expensive
it's hard to beat bags o' cement for a cost-effective strength training solution.

That reminds me--here's a link to strength training with mostly household items, you might want to check it out:

http://stumptuous.com/noweights.html

(Krista's got a great website, if you're interested in learning more about getting fit you could do way worse...)

11. Gawd no. I'm just a lazy SOB who wants to maintain
a basic level of cardio health and strength with as little wasted effort as possible.

I run a few times a week. I used to lift weights religiously, although I fell off the wagon more than a year ago and really need to get back on. I try to eat as many fresh / unprocessed things as are practical, but I fall prey to the fast-food siren like other mere mortals sometimes.

Anyway, Krista's site mentioned earlier
http://stumptuous.com/weights.html

is a great resource, and a great read even if you have no intention of ever picking up so much as a pink dumbbell in anger.

(BTW, I'm a middle-aged male, but she knows more than most gym rats I've met, and her advice is good for anyone. I've no connection whatsoever to the site).

25. BTW, I googled a recent message from her, about Xmas consumerism
Edited on Mon Jan-31-05 04:43 PM by bunkerbuster1
From a Dec. 5 2004 post:

"Declared a moratorium on Xmas consumerism a few years ago. No giving, no getting. Initially, my family thought I was crazy. Now they all think it's great, they're doing it too, and everyone is much less stressed out, less broke, and with less crap that they don't need anyway."

13. STEP AWAY FROM THE SCALE, AND NO ONE WILL GET HURT
Seriously, though. I have one in my own bathroom that I completely ignore. I even went to the doctor the other day where they weigh me each visit, and told the nurse, "I don't want to know." I looked away from the scale, and she didn't tell me what it said.

Okay, it's partially because I'm in denial, but also I would rather judge my weight by how my clothes fit, inch measurements, etc. because it's way more accurate, and therefore, way less upsetting.

If you can't ignore the scale, how about sabotaging it?
