You know what movie I'd really like to see made? One in which Jesus
comes back down to earth in the present day.

In this movie, Jesus's life in modern-day America goes exactly the same way it did two thousand years ago in Judea. He preaches the exact same things that He said in the Gospels, calls out today's "Christian" Right in the same way He faced off with the Pharisees, and starts a new way of worshipping at odds with the established faith system. And ultimately, He suffers the same fate at the hands of today's Christians that He did from the Jewish religious leaders of the day.

In addition to the modern-day Jesus preaching the things He did in the Gospels, this movie would also feature a "Republican Jesus" as well, a distortion of the New Testament Jesus. This Republican Jesus would preach stuff like: "Hate your enemies, especially if they're of a different race" or "Please pray loudly where everyone can hear you" and "Greed is good, it's easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than it is for a generous person to enter Heaven."

1. That was a good idea
Until you brought in the concept of the "Republican Jesus." That would be an unnecessary antagonist character in the plot.

3. Jesus Christ by Woody Guthrie
This sounds like what you're talking about in the first part...

Jesus Christ was a man who traveled through the land
Hard working man and brave
He said to the rich, "Give your goods to the poor."
So they laid Jesus Christ in his grave.

Jesus was a man, a carpenter by hand
His followers true and brave
One dirty little coward called Judas Iscariot
Has laid Jesus Christ in his grave

He went to the sick, he went to the poor,
And he went to the hungry and the lame;
Said that the poor would one day win this world,
And so they laid Jesus Christ in his grave.

He went to the preacher, he went to the sheriff,
Told them all the same;
Sell all of your jewelry and give it to the Poor,
But they laid Jesus Christ in his grave.

When Jesus came to town, the working folks around,
Believed what he did say;
The bankers and the preachers they nailed him on a cross,
And they laid Jesus Christ in his grave.

Poor working people, they follered him around,
Sung and shouted gay;
Cops and the soldiers, they nailed him in the air,
And they nailed Jesus Christ in his grave.

Well the people held their breath when they heard about his death,
And everybody wondered why;
It was the landlord and the soldiers that he hired.
That nailed Jesus Christ in the sky.

When the love of the poor shall one day turn to hate.
When the patience of the workers gives away
"Would be better for you rich if you never had been born"
So they laid Jesus Christ in his grave.

This song was written in New York City
Of rich men, preachers and slaves
Yes, if Jesus was to preach like he preached in Galillee,
They would lay Jesus Christ in his grave.

4. We don't need Republican Jesus.
The current batch of Republicans would work just fine. Have our Jesus character (we don't need to reveal that he's the real thing until the end of the movie) just watch Bush speeches, especially the ones where he preaches 'Christianity', and have our character use those as you might suggest he use the Repub Jesus.

5. "Joshua" by the Catholic Joseph Girzone
has already been made into a movie I believe. I have not seen it. I wanted to rent it but my niece said she saw it in youth group or something.

6. Eh eh eh...WAIT a minute. Republican Jesus is mine. I have a copyright. I
came up with the concept. I'm going to do stand up comedy dressed as Republican Jesus. I assume the stage and explain some of the questions people have such as why was I so pissed at the money changers in the temple. Turns out, I lost my temper, but then later...after I had time to run the numbers, I realized you can make some serious coin in the temple.
I have a whole thing on foot washing too. Jesus would not like that tradition going away.
I've got a whole thing based on this, so back off.
I also claim rights to:
Deficit Jesus
Humvee Jesus
Capital Gains Jesus
Homophobic Jesus
Corporate Jesus
and
Death Row Jesus
