I need help getting a new printer for my computer
Mine seems to be permanently jammed (or so it thinks - even though I can't find the source of the jam). My current printer is a photo printer, but I am not happy with the prints so I am comfortable taking the pics to Costco to get prints and enlargements of the keepers. I need a basic color printer for home and homework use. I have an old scanner and an even older fax machine. Are there any good all-in-one machines? My house is small and I would love to get some more desk space but I don't want to waste my money. TIA for any help you can provide.

1. All-in-One Printers Can Be Bought Quite Reasonably
I have an Epson Stylus CX5400 printer/copier/scanner that cost - after rebates - right at $50. I especially like the separate color ink cartridge concept, since the red, yellow or blue cartridge can be replaced when it goes empty - instead of having to purchase a color cartridge when running out of one color.

4. Another good reason NOT to buy the Lexmark Z82
that I own. It has all three colors in on cartridge. What a rip off.

I had to buy a printer for a project I just did (don't really print stuff myself -- I gave up the paper life a few years ago) and I'm very impressed with it. $130 at http://www.newegg.com

It's very small and I love that it's flat on top which allows me to reclaim the deskspace I lose with the printer by putting stuff on top. On edit: I also really like the industrial look. :-)

3. I have an Lexmark Z82 printer/scanner
It works great for scanning and printing on REGULAR paper, but whenever I try to print on photo paper (regardless of which setting I put the printer on) the paper kind of jams up in the printer and gets slightly cockeyed. I can print whatever I want, but I can't always print as many copies on one sheet of photo paper, so it annoys the hell out of me. Plus I've read that Lexmark Corp. is a real pain in the ass about not letting people sell "imitation" ink cartridges that could help cut the cost of those wallet drainers. Even though the thing has been generally pretty good to me, I would recommend that you look for a better printer/scanner option than the Lexmark.

7. I LOVE my HP front loader printer.
The printers that drop the paper from the back seem to have more jamming problems than the flat front loader variety.

It is a 3 in one color cartridge, though unfortunately

But it has all the bells and whistles to do photos etc.
