I'm depressed and lonely, where should I go out tonight?
Or should I bother at all with my introvertedness being the biggest hinderance?

1. Go to a Borders and get a good book.
It will give you something to hide behind while you hang out and people watch.

9. Have to disagree...
Personally, I avoid buying at Borders because they're not worth supporting when there are better alternatives. They hire on a part-time basis so that they don't have to extend benefits to staff members, and they have a long record of hostility to the very concept of unions - in fact, so does Barnes & Noble.
If you're looking for books, I urge you to patronize a local independent.

10. Holy !&@^#%$!
Notice how these big chain stores move in to exterminate the smaller and/or organized entities while being irresponsible and treating their employees like sh!t.

If they hated unions but at least were civilized and respectful of their employees, then I wouldn't have an issue. But if they hate unions AND abuse their employees? That makes me very mad.

Corporate america at its finest. x(

I have a B&N discount card, but I won't be renewing it.

How does amazon.com do things, are they worthwhile? Their prices are THE best, period but as I've given up credit cards, I don't want to use my debit card on a continual basis and have it taken by a hacker (though all transactions are secure and I'm behind a good firewall.)

13. Have you ever tried abebooks.com?
It's a search engine for who-knows-how-many bookstores all over the country and the world. I always make efforts to not send my credit card or debit card number over the net. Usually, with a little digging you can find an independent somewhere who's okay with money orders or, for quicker service, you can call them up and charge it over the phone. Much more secure than the net.
I just ordered an out of print book from an independent in Minnesota this way. Found the book through abebooks.com. Amazon is a good reference, to see what's in print or not, but the only time I ordered something from them, they sent the wrong item. Guess what - I had to pay the postage to send it back...

2. Even if you're introverted

Do the eye contact thing and let them come to you. It doesn't work all the time, but it can work.

5. Geez, I'm depressed, too.
I have a book to read but, I just can't focus. Too much information and aggravation going on in my life. I need whatever, Rush takes.

'Cept if I did what he did, I'd be in jail.

6. You and me both
The fact that you're asking is miles above where I am. I say do whatever you want H.T. I am a fellow introvert, and have gone out a few times. The last time I did, I started at the middle of the bar, and got shoved towards the corner; I'm 6'1" and it just showed how shy I am.

I guess my strength was with Marie O8). If anything, I'd suggest going out with (a) friend(s). Wish I could help more, but I'd like to know what you decided!

14. Tell me about it
I have gone to several events here in Vegas, and even though I'm surrounded by several thousand people, I'm all alone.

11. Art gallery?
Sometimes, looking at art can really let you forget your own troubles. And galleries are always grateful for support!

15. call your mom
If you have one. They always want to listen and laugh.

Maybe we need a DU chat room.

16. I call mom all the time
So often, I can tell when she gets bored of me.

And, sadly, we're organic. Organic life forms are not eternal, but ephemeral. Unless I find of a way to die before her :scared: I need to find people to hang out with, make friends with, have a good time with, and so on.

17. find someone...
....more shy than you are to pal around with. Then YOU will be the outgoing one!

How about a Starbucks? Or other coffee joint? You can take a book there, too.
