The Horror. The Horror. Apocalypse Now Redux on Bravo at 8pm tonight
This director's cut version is miles above the theatrical release in '79, and is perhaps the best film made in the last 40 years.

Strange to see the West Wing's "President Bartlett" as the CIA assassin......."Terminate. Terminate, with extreme predjudice."

Perhaps only "The Godfather" has more phrases from its script that have made their way into the common venacular.

my faves...

"I love the smell of napalm in the morning"

"Charlie don't surf!"

"His methods have become..........unsound."

I saw that version of the film a while back and I thought it was one of the best movies I've ever seen.

2. i like the theatrical better
**SPOILERS**

The theatrical cut is imo much darker then the redux, martin sheens character is much darker, silent. In the redux he cares for his men by getting them dates with the playboy girls, he steals the surf board etc.. not what i like..

I read theres a super directors cut out there that has EVERY scene, including one where the stoned journalist dies in the end and also when martin sheen is going to kill brando a bodygguard fights with sheen and takes a small girl to protect himself, sheen takes his knife and stabs the guard right through the girl..

I would love for the theatrical cut plus those two scenes, and the french mansion scene.

3. "Are you an assassin? No, I'm a soldier. You're neither...
you're an errand boy sent by store clerks to collect a debt."

Gawd I love that movie!

4. I just remembered that I have it on DVD
I specifically held out on buying the movie until the Redux version came out. I'm glad I waited, the Redux version fills a lot of plot holes.

There's a bit of trivia on the movie, from Steve McQueen being offered the lead to George Lucas directing. Both fell through, and I don't know if the movie would have had the same impact if they made it. The Internet Movie Database has a ton of stuff about it here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078788/.

I think I'm going to plop it in and watch it soon. Thanks for reminding me that I have it kodi :-)

8. I just picked up "Double Secret Probation Edition"
I'm debating which movie I should watch first - that or Redux.

The "Where are they now" mockumentary is ok, I especially like what they did with D-Day <cue music and screaming tires>
