Poll question: Do you rate other people's threads?
Someone noted that rating someone's thread as 'low' was 'hurtful.' I'm wondering how this new phenomenon is going to play out.

yes--based on post content
yes--based on author of post
no--too time consuming
no--don't want to play THAT game

1. I would only rate a post if it was an extreme....
Either very good or very bad. It just seems like a waste of time to sit and try to decide if a post is a 3 or a 4.

2. Yes for GD and LBN
I said I wouldn't rate stuff in the Lounge. I think it would make some of us too self-consious to blow off steam or just be silly if we knew we were being rated in here.

But I think GD and LBN would be appropriate places for it. Wagga waggas aside, I base ratings on content, not the poster. ;-)

5. I like the Views tally
Edited on Mon Jul-07-03 10:07 AM by RedSox02
Now if you don't get any responses, you at least know some people viewed your sucky thread. Hehe

By the way, I rate this thread a 1 because I am a hurtful person. On edit I also commit typos.

6. Rating high = Kick?
Or is this just a recommendation?
I do agree that the Lounge postings shouldn't have ratings.

7. Look
People who base in on the author of the post aren't going to vote in this poll, but I think there will be some trouble with this in the long run.

9. It's interesting
to see the number of hits versus the number of replies.
I'd only rate something I thought was very good...a must read.
As someone else said, either in GD or LBN.

10. Was curious about plethora of low-rated threads in Lounge last night
I assume Lounge Lizards were trying to be funny. There are other DUers who resent the Lounge somewhat, but I doubt they could be bothered to come in en masse and give crap ratings to Lounge threads. Similarly, freeper disruptors would presumably go after more significant threads than these. Just odd. I found therefore that a lot of my ratings were aimed at rescuing threads that inexplicably were wearing 1s. Think about that before you say you're not going to rate any threads

11. I'm not sure I like the rating system..
It's still new here, so maybe I'll grow into it, and I just wanted to see what my glf looks like anyway!

12. I did at the start of the new DU, but..
I've since quit, with the exception of if I see a must-rate 5 thread.

13. I make a point of rating good ones highly
I just don't rate the others. Come to think of it, I haven't started a thread since the advent of DU.2. I wonder if this is a subconscious fear of rejection?

14. I would rate a thread if I thought it was exceptional
if I thought the content had such depth, or insight or unique perspective that I thought it ought to be shared.

If, on the other hand, I think it dull or uninteresting, I'd likely not rate it. Someone else might actually enjoy it.

Come to think of it, I might rate something I thought was blatant trolling or flame-bait with a 1.
