Poll question: Best MRE
Edited on Fri Jan-21-05 12:34 PM by TXlib
Shameless copycat poll

I go with the turkey breast. At least with that, you get pot.

3. Trade your M&Ms for someone's crackers, and break them up
and put them into a the Pork ( or chicken - I forgot ) Chow Mein along with an entire mini-bottle of Tabasco and you'll have the best MRE available.

But then, anything other than Omellete with Ham is a gift!

7. no kidding! I feel OLD!!
c.1995, the best one was the (just issued) chicken chow mein.

Runners up that year (hot sauce is a given):

- spaghetti with meatballs, beef (add cheese sauce and crackers)
- meatballs, beef, and rice with tomato sauce (add cheese sauce & crackers)
- beef stew (with crackers)
- omelet with ham (as "breakfast" only)

Losers (even with hot sauce):
- corned beef hash
- chicken a la king
- tuna with noodles
- beef franks or pork patties (some were still around back then)

14. As ridiculous as it was in the 'meal' aspect, I was always kinda
fond of the old ham slice :D

Omelette with ham was arguably the best way to top off a shitty day

19. Oh Yeah? How is this for MRE guru
Ham Slice #11 80s #8 90s
Spaghetti #5 --- king of MRE's had hot sauce and cheese-- oh my lord
Omelet #4 also with cheese
Chicken and rice #11 had cheses

and if you had to... beef stew #7 no cheese but had hot sauce and would do in a pinch

Man did I eat way too many if I still remeber the numbers and what they had

I don't know any past 95.

13. I can say nothing as to "best".
But the beef stroganoff is, without question, the WORST.

15. In 1992 I had an MRE that had M&M's in it, and they said.....

"Win a trip to the 84 Olympics"

I still ate them, and they were still pretty good.

22. Some of them aren't half bad.
And if you bear in mind "hunger makes the best sauce", then they're downright delicious.

Nice avatar, BTW!

18. My favorites from the late 1980s
My two favorite MREs from that era were Chicken and Rice and the Hash. Hash was especially good if you carried a LOT of Tabasco with you.

We're pretty sure they adopted the Omelet with Ham as an interrogation tool--"tell us what we want to know and we won't make you eat this." Now that it's been discontinued, they HAVE to use torture.

no amount of water could ever rehydrate them. Let's not forget the orange koolaid that we used as a battery additive for cold morning starts
