Confession: I don't like Janeane Garofalo
She grates me. I don't know why she has emerged as some kind of "voice of the left."

Now, it's time for your confession. How do you not go with the leftist flow?

1. I like guns
Don't own any, but thats more because my wife hates guns.

But I love them - and shooting at a range can be fun as well.

And let me add that coyotes are all over the place here. Yesterday, during the day, I was walking through the woods and I saw one in the field. They are ballsy--even out in daylight.

6. I too find her insufferable. If someone disagrees with her...
....even somebody from the 'same team,' she simple repeats her point only she screams it.
....plus, at times she does not seem terribly well-informed.
....finally, she treated Eric Alterman like shit the other day. He was trying to get a straight answer from an author (didn't catch the name, it's about Joe Strummer of the Clash) and wasn't really getting one. He challenged the guy. She gave him hell, as if everybody on the show who's a lefty deserves kid glove treatment.

"How do you not go with the leftist flow?"

Although I do support the gay agenda, I think that particular leftist flow turns off a majority of voters.

To me, the gay agenda is to legalize gay marriage, with which I personally have no problem.

I just think it is a political problem for the democratic party.

See what I mean?

Kind of a typical empty, feel-good passive protest. Leftists sit on their asses and don't do enough to push things forward and make things happen. I'm guilty, myself. I was very proud of the number of marches and protests and letter-writing, fax-sending, phone-calling campaigns I joined, but what good have any of them done. Something with more edge is needed.

True, there are somethings you should never call another person. But when gay people or blacks or latinos fight to get more "representation" on fictional TV shows, someone ought to remind them of their priorities.

It seems to me like she brings fresh perspectives.

I have been on Kerry, but I've been feeling sorry for him. He's a good man and he seems to really be heartbroken from the election from what I've seen lately.

Other things? Well, I don't mind balanced budgets if we have higher taxes on the rich and spend more to get there. I think we only need limited affirmative action. Streisand annoys me a lot of times. With restrictions, I think people should be able to own guns. Also, I'm not sold on the premise that most drugs shouldn't be restricted - I'd go after the business more than all the individual users.

37. Not going with the leftist flow...
Although I'm pro-choice, I disagreed with those on a thread the other day who said that they would vote for a conservative Republican who happened to be "pro-choice" over an anti-choice Democrat. I am personally anti-abortion except in certain cases, though I just as strongly think it should remain legal, but it is one of the last issues I would base my vote on.

I think I differ from most liberals in that, despite being a "liberal" on pretty much every issue I probably care more about economic issues than social issues. I think that America will inevitably, over time, move more and more to the left on social issues, though I'm certainly all for the Democratic Party helping to push us in this direction at a faster pace. But I think if our Party keeps moving to the right on economic issues we will truly have lost our soul as a party.

I am also personally quite conservative, though obviously politically liberal and tolerant of how others choose to live, though I don't care for hypocrites- especially myself whenever I find that I'm being one. I just choose to live my own life "conservatively" for the most part, more conservatively than the vast majority of hypocritical "conservatives" do for sure...

Actually this idea is gaining credibility with many leftists I know (with my help of course), and many leftists I don't know.

There is, however, still a knee jerk part of the left that makes comments like "we don't know what to do with the waste," as if we know what to do with coal and oil waste, or solar energy waste, for that matter.

51. Oh, let me count the ways
I'm for more state regulation of guns, since gun crime is much different in New York and L.A. than it is in Topeka and Butte. Let the feds clamp down on the big-time assault-type weapons that no one really needs to own, let the states handle the rest (with financial assistance from the feds).

I don't think a vote for Rice is equivalent to being a sellout and bringing down civilization, it's politics. The real fights are still to come.

I'm sick of symbolic, Quizotic crusades against things that only make the left even more of a target in the press and by Republicans. Fighting against the posting of the Ten Commandments in a state courtroom in Alabama is important; fighting against a nativity scene on a town square in rural nowhere is a waste of time and energy.

Clamp down on immigration. Yeah, I said it. Those illegal immigrants are used only to bust unions, bring down wages, and, basically, be exploited by wealthy and unscrupulous business owners. And if that many illegal immigrants can come across the border, how easy would it be for a few terrorists to filter in?

I agree with other posters that PC is bullshit, but to be fair, most of the controversy was created by the right when it came up in the 1990's. And that goes for the right-wing too - they have their PC as well: "Support the troops" "With us or against us" "Get behind our president" etc.

The elitists and moralists on the left. Yes, Virginia, they do exist. The kind that make noise like they're on our side, but shop at the exclusive stores, drive expensive European cars, and wouldn't be caught dead with the union guys down at the neighborhood bar. The kind that think anyone who watches NASCAR is a brain-dead idiot. The kind who think that all who disagree with them are bigoted morons. The kind that the right just love to have around because they make huge, bright, red targets for them to paint the rest of us with.

That was longer than it should be. I'll await the flaming.

The ill informed "reactionary" nature of some of her comments just makes me want to scream. She knows little history and parrots whatever the TNR sez all good liberals should think.

Critical thinking is gonna be lost in this country if we keep pushing the "left version" of conventional wisdom rather than examining the evidence and weighing realistic options.

Some of the "Red" states she lumps into here rants had a 40% plus vote for Kerry, which in NC should have been damn hard to do given the iron control that Jesse Helms has on local media.

65. I don't like AAR
Although it's a common belief the other side is spoon fed and validated by a right leaning media, I don't respond to propaganda, not even when it is in line with my own opinions. Rhandi Rhodes (sp?) is particularly irritating, Al Franken has been frustrating to listen to since he started taking himself seriously and I haven't even listened enough to hear Garofalo, whom I enjoy in movies.

Further, F-9/11 didn't just highlight this president's failure but also the failure of the democratic party.

The whole two party concept at this point is broken because neither works effectively for the electorate beyond tricking them into believing the side they vote for is the 'good' one. There is no good side!

Phew! I feel better now.

69. I fit the "profile" more often associated with the other side.
I am a suburban stay-at-home mother financially supported by my husband. I drive a mini-van. I teach Sunday School. I bake cookies for the preschool.

I am certain that those around me in this Bush-lovin' country assume I am one of THEM. I think people are bemused to dicover I am not one of THEM.

Also, as mentioned above, I like football and John Kerry.

70. Dare I say it? I don't like Hillary.
Loved the Big Dog, don't like her.

Sorry.
