Got another TDI now. I also have a CBR, an XJ and just sold an old T140E.

3. ah VW's - cars for ubermensch
A B100 is probably a name specific to the US. eg, what we call a Golf over here is, I believe, called a Rabbit(I think) in the US.

I've had five VW's; got one right now. Superbly built and VW has good worker relations.

2. Do you really have a TDI?
If so, do you like it? I'm thinking about getting one.

I'll raise you a 124s, an SM753df and a EM-1820m.

4. TDI's rock and roll - it's the torque
Edited on Wed Jan-19-05 02:25 PM by McKenzie
I get well over 200 ft/lbs (as measured at the crank) at 2,000 rpm. The mid range acceleration is phenomenal. I also get 46-55 mpg depending on driving style and conditions. I LOVE TDI's. No plugs to worry about, less electric s and so on. Would never own a petrol car again. The GTI is the only petrol car I've owned since 1991.

Don't recognise your models though. Must be US market specific I suppose.

edit: mishtake

5. Are you in Europe?

I've heard their Diesel is much better (and cleaner) than it is here in Jesusland.

Those model numbers are just random items near my computer desk, except the 124s which is my Fiat Spider. :)

7. I have been on the roof of the Fiat factory
the Lingotto in Turin. Spider is a lovely car.

Yes, I'm in Scotland. Diesel is big over here. Company car drivers get taxed on the basis of CO2 emissions in the UK and Diesels often come out in the lowest band.

And, diesel is an oil so it keeps way longer than petroleum which is a spirit that loses potency if stored too long. Diesel can be stored for years in sealed containers. Needs to be well sealed though coz diesel is hygroscopic.

6. I have a TDI, I laugh at hybrids, while getting 50+ mpg

Great great great car.

But watch the timing belt, the belt that runs from the crank to the camshafts. They break, and when they do, it wreaks havoc. VW says 80,000 miles, but I have heard from mechanics do it sooner, much sooner. I replaced mine at 60,000.

8. I know of diesels with 200,000 on the clock
on the same engine. Agreed...wonderful cars provided they are serviced properly.
