1. It's almost as if the old cowboy is "married" to Patches or something.
I really thought the part about Patches getting into bed was very strange. Like he'd done it many times before. You don't think that they sleep together......do you?

2. That is so wonderful!
Thanks. I have a horse that if someone knew how to train him properly would probably be a good candidate to follow in Patches footsteps. My horse does like coke, don't know about cheeseburgers and will steal your beer if you are not careful, he also likes coffee. He kisses, counts, dances when you sing, makes faces on cue and would go anywhere with you if he knew how. That is such a cool horse!

6. I like Quarter Horses.
Edited on Tue Jan-18-05 04:57 PM by CottonBear
I'm raising an Oldenburg filly. She'll be two in May. Horses are a lot of work but I do love them! They are the most beautiful animals.

edit: Now a horse that can get a beer from the fridge is one useful equine! That is so cool. I think that my horse will be too large to come into the house. That horse looks like a large pony or very small horse. He was not freaked out at all by the car ride or the drive-through! LOL!

7. It was totally amazing.
Yup, he must be a really small horse. I raise cutting horses and some of them are just over the pony size of 14 hands (?). This horse I was talking about could do it but I am afraid you would need a very big car for him, he is not only smart for a horse but an easy keeper if you know what I mean. An Oldenburg? I am not familiar with that breed so I will go check them out. I currently have 7 horses and yes they are a lot of work, especially right now with all the ice we have had. It is taking me 4-6 hours a day just to clean and feed and get ready for night time. HA! I am one cold cowgirl these days. 2 year old fillys are fun, so inquisitive but beginning to show a little sense. Have fun with her.

8. Good luck with your 7 horses!
Mine lives on the farm where she was bred. I help to take care of her and 22 other horses! I'm going out right now to feed them. I'm a cold cowgirl too. Brrr! It's in the 20s here in Georgia at night this week. An Oldenburg is a German warmblood breed. My filly is out of a Main Mare Book Thoroughbred Mare by an Oldenburg Stallion. She is a lot of fun and learns very quickly. I can't wait to ride her but I have to wait until she'd about 3 1/2 or 4 to do any serious riding. Oldenburgs take longer to mature. Stay warm and happy trails!

9. WOW!!! WOW 22 horses?
Holy shoot that is a lot to take care of. I also have to drive to my farm where mine are. I looked up the breed, they are real beauties. I broke my first bred filly last summer as a 3 year old and it was so fun to ride her. She loves me and would take such good care of me that it was funny. Wear lots of longjohns cold cowgirl. I am sending virtual alfalfa snacks to your baby and a cuppa hot cocoa to you.

10. Thanks for the cocoa and alfalfa!
That is so cool that your filly takes such good care of you. You are going to have a great time this spring and summer when you can really get out and train and ride. I hope that I can be as sucessful as you when I begin to ride mine. I know lots of people who don't like mares but I find them very loving. A good mare is worth her weight in gold. The people that own the farm and bred my baby are so great. He's a retired vet professor and she has a PhD in plant science. I help them take care of all their horses in exchange for part of Cotton's board. They have everything from 6 month old babies to yearlings, broke horses, brood mares, stallions and an old blind brood mare who bred a baby who is competing in 3 day eventing at Rolex Kentucky! Stay warm MuseRider. I send alfalfa snacks and hot cocoa to you and you equines as well! I've thought about starting an equine DU group. I know of several other horsey DUers. Friesan Rider (?) in PA and a cowboy guy in CA. All the politics and other stresses of the day melt away when you're with your horse.
