Any other survivors of Jan.17, 1994 Northridge Earhquake?

11 years now and I still have a bum knee and vertigo to remind me.

Anyone else?

1. I was in Woodland Hills. House was destroyed. Nothing salvaged but

the frame and foundation.

2. Been thinking about that all weekend. Weather was just like this

I went sailing out of Channel Islands Harbor the day before. Boyfriend spent the weekend over. It was gorgeous outside and we were having a good time, and we both had 3-day weekends.

When we came back from sailing I noticed I my cat was acting possessed. He was doing the strangest thing -- he absolutely would not touch the floor, as if it were boiling hot. He navigated his way through the house by jumping from one piece of furniture to the other. He did it all day long, and we remarked on how odd it was.

So he knew something was funny with the ground. He also predicted some of the larger aftershocks with the same behavior.

I miss that cat.

Today is the 10th anniversary of Kobe, Japan's big one btw.

5. It was a 7.8 in my neighborhood.

Everything that could break in the house broke. My knee ligaments were torn and I had some damage to my kneecap. I didn't get to a doctor till a week later, though. I didn't think it was serious enough compared to others, plus, the hospitals were in bad shape, too, and treating people in the parking lots.

I changed clothes after 3 days and discovered the imprint of the corner of the television set on my other leg. My body was tossed around so much, I had no idea that the TV even fell on my leg till I saw that impression of it. I guess your body goes into shock and you don't feel all the injuries until it calms down.

Very weird. Horrific, actually.

4. I was on my way from Bakersfield to LA when it hit, I had just

come over the grapevine. . . . I turned around and went home. There was no way they'd let me through the roads, etc.

2 years later, I moved to Woodland Hills, and there were still plenty of damaged buildings (along with some condemned apartment buildings in Canoga Park and the areas around there.).

6. Was in Chicago

Didn't feel anything.

7. I was in Los Angeles...

just south of Santa Monica. House shook. Freeway bridge collapsed nearby. Building nearby had chunks of concrete fall over onto sidewalk, no injuries. Building would be knocked down as 'structurelly unsound', but employees would be allowed to clear valuables first.

Ruined my weekend with my mom. Made me late returning to my ship, but I was excused 'for good cause'.
