I finished watching "Saved" earlier.

Interesting movie. Quite entertaining and fit the evangelical Christians to a T. That first teacher had a poster of Bush in her classroom. But it seemed to make good commentary on what real faith versus fake faith is.

1. Brought me back 15 years

To the fundamentalist, independent baptist church I attended growing up. Luckily I missed the whole church school thing -- my parents weren't churchgoers, and besides that, the nearest one was on the other side of the county. I had a friend my freshman year in high school who was sent there for education thereafter because she was starting to think independently of her parents. (At least they didn't commit her!)

2. I saw it last weekend.

I thought it was pretty good, also. Very funny, and it fits the description of many fundies I know. I liked how they showed how distorted the idea of "faith" can become with the influx of born-agains.

6. honestly...

i was hoping for an abortion. it would've been very edgy and in your face. Seeing a fundy community react to a what they felt was a sweet girl accidentally get pregnant than get an abortion would make a good movie i feel. it would've drastically changed the movie, of course, but it would make an interesting movie.

i just felt like the end of that movie as it was written did too much to justify keeping one's faith. As an atheist, I'm not saying that it's bad that people have faith, or that it's bad that their faith held them together and strengthened them through a very difficult time, I'm saying that just once, i'd love to see someone turn on God and be perfectly happy about it.
