Well, I got a bit of bad news yesterday afternoon
after which I went to work and pretended my world wasn't spinning out of control. It was so busy that, after a while, I almost forgot it myself. It's getting harder now that I'm home and it's quiet and I can feel my heart beating.

That damn heart.

I'm also childishly disappointed because I won't be able to go to DC for the counter-inaugural followed by the PDA conference. I was quite looking forward to it, though I had been procrastinating a bit on the arrangements, which turns out to be a good thing.

Seems my heart is more broken that my doctor and I first thought. Or maybe it isn't. I'm still clutching to that one. But there may be surgery in my too near future. There may be an implanted defibrillator (ew) or ablation (ick) or ?

I have the "first available" appointment next week with the cardiologist. I've been bumped from my internist. In the meanwhile, I get to ponder sudden cardiac arrest, unless I come up with some neat, nifty ways to obliterate that thought. Without drugs or alcohol. Oh, and my doctor mentioned it might be a good idea to keep my stress level down (of course that one is my fault for pushing him to play "what if?". He was trying to hedge on that)

So maybe in some weird way, it's good to focus on the disappointment about not getting to go next week.

1. OMG
I am sending you positive energy. I have both heart and lung problems, and I can relate to how scary it is to deal with them. I will eventually have to have a multiple heart valve replacement due to leakage, but it is not bad enough at this moment to warrant the surgery.

I hope the outcome for you is the best possible.

2. I'm sorry to hear about your heart
my father has a debibrillator implanted in his chest and his heart is very weak, so I know what you're going through.

I hope you're up and about soon and feeling much better (if you do have to have surgery).

4. Take care of yourself - the world needs you
Going to Washington can wait - the asshole will be there to protest for a while. If you can afford it, why don't you sponsor someone to go in your place, there are plenty that would go but can't afford too.

6. My sympathies!
I've just gone through cardiac surgery and can tell you that the recovery is far more difficult than the surgery....

HOWEVER..........

I can't tell you how much better I feel now than I did before the surgery. It's like a whole new life and I can't believe how much my stamina and endurance have improved. I feel like I could run a marathon...and probably will run in a 5K race this spring or summer....I feel the results of aging falling off....and so will you.

Hang in there and get the surgery taken care of, it will be better in the ling run......

7. My best to you!
I hope this all turns out well for you in the long run. I'll think of you while watching what the media decides to show us on TV.

I, too, would love to go, and am now thankful that it's not my health keeping me home.

Here's hoping we can both go to the next inauguration and cheer for the winner instead of protesting.

10. Cardiac Ablation
If this is an option for you it's really not as bad as it sounds. I had this procedure done about a year ago for a longstanding arrhythmia. It's done on an outpatient basis. I was medicated for mine so I don't remember any of it. The bad part as always when they stick a tube through your leg into your heart is the laying still on your back for hours and hours afterwards. I have back problems and found that to be the worst of the whole thing.

I was back to work the next day. I no longer take medication for my arrhythmia and feel well.
