Bush (news - web sites) on January 11, 2005 nominated U.S. Appeals Court Chertoff, an architect of the Justice Department (news - web sites)'s anti-terror policies after the Sept. 11, to become secretary of homeland security. If confirmed, Chertoff would replace Tom Ridge as homeland security chief. (Win McNamee/Reuters)
