6. A long time.

Started lurking Summer 2002. didn't sign up until November 2002, then I didn't start posting much until Summer 2003.

It was right before the huge february 15th anti-war protests before the war began. I found DU while lurking on Free Republic (they were speaking ill of the place so i had to check it out). I believe I had found links from other sites to the 10 conservative idiots on the home page before but didn't pay attention to the "discussion forums" within.

15. Since the begining...

Shortly after selection 2000. I used to hang around Bartcop.com, which is where I first heard of this site.

I just never registered since I did think I was politically educated enough to join any of the conversations.

I would have registered a lot earlier, but all I had was a Yahoo address and the admins wouldn't let me join.

I finally got a DSL modem that came with a new E-mail account...so about a month before the election, I finally had the courage to join you all.

Now that I'm here tho, I think I'll stay...:hi:

I'm more of an artist/ writer...but I stand by my political beliefs, and am very concerned as to what's going on in this country...

It's funny because when I first joined, I felt like I knew everyone already, yet no one knew me.

A couple group proposals and a few hundred vanity threads in the Lounge fixed that real quick! :thumbsup:

19. I was a TOTAL dork

when I first found DU, back in the spring of 2003, I think, I had no idea there WERE forums. I just thought the articles on the front page were KICK ASS. Some were so good, I read them twice. I printed them off, I forwarded them in emails. I loved the Top Ten Biggest Conservative Idiots and the Hate Mail Bag stuff. Absolutely had me laughing so hard.

Back then, the format of the front page was a little different and the link for the forums wasn't as visible or obvious. So I was here strictly for the articles for a long time--I swear I never looked at the pictures!

When I found the forums (finally) I knew I was doomed to be addicted.

I enjoyed coming here to read the articles, though heavily involved on another dem site as a researcher and moderator, I just never had time to 'play' here.

However, since the election, I found this the best place on the "internets" to rebuild the party with all these very diverse and like minds.

By the way, always wanted to ask....how many posts does one need not to be considered a "newbie" ? Length of membership or #posts?

Even though I just 1k, I still feel like a newbie (nov04).

39. I'd had it long before with online forums and was sure my experience

here would be as disappointing. A friend of mine kept emailing me links to topics I was already debating (with myself, I guess!) and right before the election told me of the dire consequences of not joining before Nov.2 so I took the leap. Haven't regretted it, especially not the Lounge!
