Just call me "Repo-woman".. What an adventure..
Edited on Fri Jan-07-05 04:13 AM by SoCalDem
My best friend, is a soft touch to the MAX.. On May 1st, her brother (48 yr old carpenter) begged her for the use of her "pristine ford ranger with a cover thingie on the bed". It had 130K miles , had new shocks, tires and she had just had the AC fixed too.

His truck was broken down, and he only needed it for a few weeks until he could save the money to fix his..

She said sure..

She has been trying since June to get it back, and he just avoids her.

His wife threw him out (he has this gambling problem too)...anyway in September she found out where he was staying, and I drove her up there.. She had the keys in her hand (it was midnight) and yet decided at the last minute to call him on the cell phone so he could get his tools out.. Naturally, he sweet-talked her and we left without the truck..

Last month we found out again where he was staying (he moved), and about midnight we drove to where he was staying.. As she neared the truck, he jumped out of the back..(HE WAS SLEEPING IN THE DAMNED TRUCK)...so again she chickened out.

She finally went to the police and they told her she could have him arrested, and it would be felony embezzlement and he could go to prison.. so that idea went nowhere..

anyhoo, tonight, I said let'st go get your truck.. She was shaking like a leaf, but this time he was not in the truck, and away we went..

The poor truck is filthy, has dents, the shocks are shot, he broke the "kill switch", the ignition is screwed up and it now has 330,000 miles on it.. in SEVEN MONTHS :wtf:..

But she has her truck back.. All his tools are in the back, and I suggested that she just sell them to pay for the repairs..:)

12. let's do some math:
200,000 miles in 7 months.
hhmmmmm

200,000 / 7 / 30 / 24 = about 39 miles every hour non-stop for 7 months.

or:

200,000 / 7 / 30 / 16 = about 59 miles every waking hour for 7 months.

so if this part of the story is true, the guy is basically spending all his waking hours on the highway, just driving, and apparently always coming home each night.

13. I hope she read it wrong..because I couldn't see how he did it
I have a 91 Honda and it's only got 145K on it.:)

We'll check it again when the sun comes up :)..The dome llight is out too, so it was dark and she read it by the street light in front of my house.. We have it at my house since he still has a set of keys. She's getting it re-keyed tomorrow, just in case :)

17. Wanna figure out how much gas money that is?
Edited on Fri Jan-07-05 06:53 AM by BullGooseLoony
Sounds like the guy has been RUNNING from somebody...

But, say the thing gets 20 miles per gallon (prolly generous)...that's 10,000 gallons of gas. At $1.70/gallon, that's $17,000 just on gas that the guy spent.

On edit: You know, she really oughta check with the cops to make sure it hasn't been used in any crimes. She doesn't want that coming back to haunt her.

18. The police suggested that "she just go and get her truck"
Edited on Fri Jan-07-05 02:08 PM by SoCalDem
and they did run the plates to see if there were any warrants..Apparently he did not break any laws ...(except for THEFT..from HER..)

They police said that since she originally gave permission, they could only charge him with embezzlement..and she balked at that

4. Fuck
This"guy" needs to learn integrity..And people like this fuckhead take ADVANTAGE of the soft touch.
This is the same phenomena that angers m when I see dems compirimising with repukes,Just like going easy on the asshole truck thief,This country it pisses me off,If the elected dems won't have a harder touch with these fucking pigs what will it take to knock the arrogant down so they'll stop taking advantage and abusing the good hearted or the workers, gays, disabled, elderly, desperate, the poor?
Comprimise with an hypocrite, bully or a manipulator than you will get screwed and your kindness and misplaced trust is used against you.

Edited on Fri Jan-07-05 04:29 AM by SoCalDem
She was so nervous she missed the highway exit on the way home :)

I told her..

Get in..LOCK the doors, and even if he's in the back..just DRIVE..

If he's in the back we'll go to the police department, and when he gets out, THEY can call him a cab.."

But he was not in the truck this time..

He's gonna be SOOOO pissed when he gets up in the AM

10. As though he has any right to be angry.
He really abused her kindness. I hope she won't be this gullible again. Very unfair to her.

Don't know if you like detective fiction, but that's the group of repo characters in a Joe Gores' series. Your caper would fit right in.

when he was killed in the car accident a few years ago.. Bastard!!
He only lived a few blocks from her at the time, so there was NO REASON why he did not go.

19. UPDATE... He has called 4 times threatening her..
DEMANDING that she return "HIS" truck..:wtf:..

I told her to call the police and to save the messages.. she has not answered any of his calls (just as he's ignored HER calls for MONTHS), so she has them saved..

He said he was going to pay her a visit, so I also told her to make sure her house was locked up, and if he does show up, she's to call 911 and NOT let him in.. The cops can deal with him on her porch.

He's a big blow-hard and has no wheels now, so I doubt that he will show up, but better safe than sorry..

21. The police will only arrest him for the embezzlement charge
and it's a felony, so she does not want to do that. He's already "on the ropes" , and she doesn't want him in jail...and he's got no money for lawyers etc..

The cops more or less said they could not really help since she originally loaned the truck to him.. If he had jimmied the door open and taken it without permission, they could...but as far as the law was concerned, he just "failed to return" it to her, and unless she filed formal charges of embezzlement of her property, they wouldn't do anything.

THEY suggested that we do exactly what we ended up doing, so at least it's on the record, in case he goes nuts and starts harrassing her.

22. He came to her house, and she DID call the police.. I am so proud of her
They did not arrest him, but did tell him that if he came back, they WOULD.. He told them she "stole" his property from the truck (it's still at MY house), and one of the cops actually laughed a bit.

They suggested to him, that when he paid her for the damages to HER truck, she might be willing to "trade" him..

Bless our cool cops.. No tasers, no handcuffs..just a couple of smart guys who sat with him on the porch and cooled things down :)

23. How did he get there, did he steal some kid's bike?
I knew he would try to pretend she stole his tools.

So what is his problem, anyway, is it drugs?

are abandoned property now. He left them in HER truck. They're hers.

She should take an easily removable part out from under the hood that is essential to the running of the vehicle, while she's waiting to get a new kill switch installed in a new location.

Good work

26. The truck is at MY house, and he does not know my last name or address
A friend brought him and dropped him off at her house.. I don't know how he left, but she held her ground and did not talk to him..

Best yet.. she just called, and he called her again #9 of the day.. HE's going to the police to press charges for HER stealing his tools..

Watch for this nut on COPS.. He's basically going to the cops to ADMIT to the charges she told them about last week.. :):):)

I know he won't go, but we laughed our asses off on that threat :)
