I mean old time, go fast in a straight line muscle cars.

1. The only decent Ford Muscle car was the Mustang Shelby GTs.
67-68.
My fav's are the Pontiac GTOs 67-69.

2. Depends on whether you're talking quality or quantity.
For quantity, GM. The Chevelle SS, GTO, Olds 442, Buick GS...but for quality it was Chrysler. The 426 Hemi in the Barracuda, Roadrunner and Charger made those cars the definitive go-fast-in-a-straight-line rides.

16. No Doubt About It.
There's at least one RichardCranium cop in FL who thinks they should be on the list.

My son managed to somehow *squeal* the tires on my tired, ratty old Sephia with 90,000 miles on it. He said he slipped off of the clutch too fast, and rather than die, the thing decided to lurch and go, so the tires squealed.

RichardCranium was two cars back, saw the car bolt forward when the light turned green, and gave him a ticket for exhibition driving/test of acceleration.

I'd frame the ticket as absolutely hilarious, BUT -

It's related to the new street-racing laws (sort of like gang-related). It's not 'just' get a traffic ticket, pay the fine and life goes on. I think they can even impound the car involved. Don't quote me, I could be wrong. After all, if they could, surely they'd want this BEAST of a RACING MACHINE off of the roads, and would have taken it.

It's a 'must appear'- hire a lawyer, plead not guilty and go through a whole court thing.

Or plead guilty, pay fine - $500.00 - and mandatory license revocation for one year.

So...

We got a lawyer.
hmmm, Wonder what he drives?

8. NASCAR banned the Hemi but not before Richard Petty rang up a lot of those
200 victories in Hemi powered Plymouths. I'd say a it's a tie between a 64 Fury, a 66 GTX, a 68 Road Runner and a 70 'cuda all of course with Hemis, that would be the coolest. For those on a budget, a 68 AMX with a 390 or a 68 Dart GTS with a 340.

10. Voted for Ford (Mercury)
As my first car was a '69 Cougar convertable. It was pretty cool with the sequential rear blinker arrays and the hidden headlights.

Couldn't keep up with the MOPARS though.

Not really a muscle car, it was the Arnold S. of all cars: Big, Bulky, Bulging, a goofy grill with diastemas, and it always blew out all kinds of nasty exhaust.

Also, Ford is still building muscle cars, while the others are not.

21. Just to hear him double clutch no doubt.....
Those racing 4 speeds like Muncie didn't have those namby-pamby synchronizers. So you had to double clutch to try and get those gears spinning the same speed and then shift. Its done very well in Bullitt.

Ford - Mustang, Galaxie 500, Barracuda, all cool as hell.

GM - Corvette, Camero/Firebird, Chevelle/Malibu, Cutlass

Chrysler - Charger, Newport .. hmmm

But I picked Ford for the 'stangs and the 68 Galaxie 500 fastback my mom drove (I had NO IDEA how subversive that woman was until adulthood)

20. Fast in a straight line?--only one then...
1969 Corvette with the aluminum ZL1 engine. It was a $6,000 option back when $6 grand would get you a couple of cars. If you could find a Vette with a ZL1 and matching numbers today you might have to pay $250 grand or more.

Very,very few were actually installed in factory Corvette's at that price tag and I think the heater was deleted in Chevy's attempt to keep them off the streets and on the drag strip. I think they were offered by Chevy for 1968 and 69 in Vette's and then later sold as engine only.

That set-up with headers,M22 Rock crusher 4 speed, was brutal. It would do a 1/4 mile in just a hair over 10 seconds right from the factory. Severe tweaking could get you into the high 9's. That was damn fast back in 69....
