Poll question: Where should Jobycom and family go for vacation?
Heck, it's no worse than a lot of polls. Me, wife, and two daughters (four and ten) need a vacation in August. Where should we go? My oldest daughter, for whom I do everything, wants a cruise, but I think she'd be bored.

1. Vote for LV and GC
Edited on Tue Jul-15-03 01:53 PM by supernova
It's someplace different. I hear there's lots of "family" friendly things to do in LV now, not just gambling, which doesn't interest me at all.

The Grand Canyon would be wild, esp a rafting trip.

I'd also say a cruise, but I've not heard that the ships have cleaned up their hygiene problems from the winter. All you need is to be sick on a boat with 1100 other people. :hurts: x(

6. A four year old on a Canyon river raft?Q
You got no kids, huh? :-)

Good suggestion, though. Thanks.

2. Well, what are you looking for?
Or trying to get away from? Since I live in Texas, the idea of going to Florida or even the Carribean just doesn't sound like fun right now. I want to go where there is a lot of snow (with apologies to Buffet). Or do you want any educational/spiritual value to the vacation, or just relax and have some fun for once?

Not knowing these things, I would say-

Yellowstone and Glacier- It is absolutely beautiful up there. Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana are just gorgeous. If they weren't so darn repub, I'd give in to my hubby and agree to move there. This time of year, you can find alpine meadows full of flowers and wildlife all over the place!

DC and Williamsburg- Not too hot (compared to Tejas anyway), and even the 4 year old would enjoy Williamsburg. And Busch Gardens would be fun for all.

Or give in to the kids, put politics aside, and go to one of the Disney resorts! Whatever you do, I hope you get to enjoy it!

8. Fill me in more on Williamsburg
What's to do there. DC was an option, but I didn't think the four year old would like it much, and the ten year old would get bored, too. What's Williamsburg, and what is there to do? (I know roughly what it is, but not specifics).

10. I've heard good things about the Disney cruises, but...
Anyone who would voluntarily come to Florida this time of year is nuts. It's more than a little hot and humid here right now.

Reminds me of the old joke about the man who catches his best friend in bed with his wife. "Joe," he says, "I HAVE to. But you?"

My vote is for somewhere in the mountains...

4. Ha! Ha! Glad you have a sense of humor about Rush, good for you.
I voted for Denver, but I would have chosen the Grand Canyon if you hadn't included Vegas. However, I think in actuality you should do the Grand Canyon (minus Vegas) and try to mimic everything the Brady Bunch did on their trip (ghost town, camping, etc.)

7. Don't want to center it on the GC, because we went there last year
Took my parents to see it. No one would hike to the bottom with me, so I did it alone. This time the GC would be a side trip, and I planned to see the north rim instead of the south.

On Rush-- Wink! I actually put that in there in case you saw the poll! I don't like the guy, I wish he would go away, I just think... Eh, we beat that one up in the other thread, didn't we? No point rehashing.

9. I got in the same argument with my dad! Ha ha!
He was convinced I thought he liked Rush Limbaugh and kept sending me all these defensive emails.

I don't think the Bradys went into the Grand Canyon. As I recall, they just parked their station wagon by the side and looked at it.

12. You are so wrong!
About the Bradies, not necessarily Rush.

The Bradies rode mules into the Canyon, and one of them got lost. Peter probably. It was a two part episode. That was one of the longest weeks of my young life, waiting to see if he lived or got eaten by a bear!

5. Took the Fam to the GC this year.
Just got back a few weeks ago. Best vaca we've ever had.

Might I suggest that instead of coupling the GC with LV, you visit Sedona instead.

13. Sedona, AZ.
http://www.visitsedona.com/

I used to live there. It's so beautiful. Hwy 89A between Sedona and Flagstaff is the most beautiful drive in the country.

14. I've heard
Last year we went to the Grand Canyon, briefly, but there were fires around Sedona that had closed the road, so I missed it.
