What the CAT gave my husband for Christmas!
True story:

My husband fell asleep on the couch, and woke up in the middle of the night when he felt Salem, one of the cats, licking and nibbling on his forehead.

This morning when we got up, I asked him how he had managed to get a strange red mark on his forehead. At first he didn't know, but when he told us about Salem messing with his face, we figured out she had given him...

A CAT HICKEY!

Lately Salem, for some weird purpose of her own, has been climbing atop a fuzzy throw on our bed, taking a piece of it in her mouth, and "nursing" as she kneads her paws on it. She's about 18 months old, and I guess this blankie's texture reminds her of her mother's tummy. The throw has all these strange little tufts where she's been sucking on it.

My husband's hair is sort of fuzzy, and I think Miss Salem was attempting to "nurse" on his face.

It took me 45 minutes to stop laughing.....

Merry Christmas!

1. From your description, it sounds like things could have been worse...
At least the cat didn't "knead" his face with her paws. That might have been ugly and painful.

3. Althea will knead anything, until she gets to the face,
then she's very gentle. She's a smart little thing :)

10. My cat "kneads" my boobs
I'm trying to train her to give me a signal if she feels a lump!

4. I know a cat who liked to lick his owners beard stubble in the am
I guess he was cleaning his tongue (after using his tongue to clean the rest of his own body)!

5. "after using his tongue to clean the rest of his own body"
I am NOT going to point that out to Dave. He will end up wearing a mask to bed.

6. It's called "smurgling"
and I have two that do it. One has a thing for my arm, the other seems to like my chin. I always thought it was because they were separated from their mothers too soon.:P

7. Ours came from a shelter and that's probably what happened
to them -- lost their mommy too soon.

Smurgling..... hmmmm.....

perhaps that explains the strange red marks that appear on Shrub's face now and then.

9. no respectable cat would ever let his tounge touch that!
Cats and horses are very people savvy. I think the reason why Shrub has dogs (and little ones at that) is because they slobber all over whoever feeds them. Don't get me wrong, I love dogs and all animals, I just think that you have to be pretty cool to win the respect of a cat.

11. A cat hickey! That is so great!! Most of my cats have done that kneading
thing...It does come from when they were little babies. It helps them to get milk from mommy's nipple, so I guess it is some kind of baby-mommy thing. I do like the name "Smurgle"
