Right on schedule....The Return of "Folgers" Peter....my rant

Every GDamn year,for what seems like at least 15 Christmas's, Folgers runs that miserable commercial where PETER comes homes and is greeted by his "change in life" much younger sister and they make Folgers to wake up the family.

I HATE THAT INSIPID PETER.

ad - but it didn't go so well.

Flash forward -

Unemployed parent-sucking good-for-nothing Peter lounging on couch, playing endless video games, yells for mom to bring him another cup of Folgers.

Mom enters and gestures with empty coffeepot.

"Wake up and smell the dregs. It's gone, Peter. Time to move out and get a real life."

edit to add - when I first saw the ad how many years ago? It was an aawwww, sniff moment. moment being the key word.

3. FWIW.....

"Peter's Homecoming": This spot, which first aired in 1985 and is back for a six-week run this year, still resonates with many. The commercial shows a young man returning home on Christmas morning, arms laden with presents, to find everyone asleep except for his young sister. Together, they brew a pot of Folgers, the smell of which wakes up Mom and Dad, who, of course, are surprised and thrilled to see him.

6. Christmas commercials are like Christmas specials.

It would be sacrilege to change them.

Think of the Andre Champagne spot. Andre advertises only once a year--at Christmastime. They use the same spot every year--"ring in the holidays, ring out the year."

The "Peter" commercial they deleted:

Peter comes home with an armful of presents to find only his 14-year-old sister awake.

Peter starts a pot of Folgers.

The rest of Peter's family gets up and goes to the kitchen. Mom embraces Peter, then glances at the counter--where the Folgers can is sitting.

"Peter, we love you but you have shitty taste in coffee, anyone tell you that?" says Mom.

'But...but...but...I found the Folgers in your cabinet!'

Dad pipes in--"We were gonna dump the coffee in the trash and use the can to store nails! Thanks for the reminder!"

Dad pours the pot of Folgers down the drain, dumps the contents of the can in the trash, then pulls a bag of Mayorga coffee out of the cabinet.
