I just watched "I, Robot" and it wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be!

I could have sworn I read bad reviews of this when it was in the theaters. Maybe that's why I was pleasantly surprised, I expected it to be baaad and it wasn't.

The robotic arm was a bit too convenient and I don't know why, but I expected the revolt of the robots to be more SUBTLE but other than that, I quite liked it. Nice surprise.

If I'm not mistaken a lot of the uproar when it came out was based on the fact that some people expected it to be a film version of the Asimov novel, right? And it was just very loosely based on an idea in it and took the title. Am I remembering correctly?

Anyway. It was worth a $4 rental. Interesting commentary on war, revolution, etc, though they could have gone deeper with that, but it was an American film, what am I to expect?

1. The concept of self-awareness in machines/robots is fascinating
I'm hoping it's not something we'll have to face soon.

2. I kept thinking that too
and I found the premises of this movie to be really fascinating.

5. It is unlikely that violence will be avoided
Oppressed groups have usually had to win their freedom by force.

The upheaval to theologies would be traumatic too.
How would Fundies react?

We humans haven't yet managed to interact with each other in a consistantly decent manner.

We're nowhere near mature enough for something like this.

3. That's pretty much the consensus; blame the movie trailers
Made it look sacriligious, when the movie itself (upon actual viewing) was not all that bad.

Proyas' rep is still somewhat intact.

4. When "the 3 laws" came on I started giggling.
I read so much Asimov as a teenager, it was really cool to see these come up on the big screen. Sort of like seeing Wizard of Oz on the big screen when it was re-released a few years ago. But different.
