:D

Public Enemy = us DUers, ultimately? O8)

(PE's lyrics are definitely anti-repuke... and they recently made a song truly dissing *. I've got to get it. And by buying it.)

5. Early 90s rap group, before rap became synonymous with cop killing.
They defined a new genre that's since been watered down, twisted, and abused by others, (of course, any music genre will have its own extremes. PE was about social awareness. Not promoting rape or killing, but I've only listened to the album "Fear of a Black Planet", which is quite good.)

7. You're definitely painting rap and hip-hop with a very broadbrush...
and eating up the RW spin. There's still great rap and hip-hop being made out there.

Don't believe the hype!

14. All genres are broad. Why should they be narrow?
I am eating nothing RW'ish, though I do see your point.

If I had, I'd paint PE the same way as the more crude elements of 'gangsta rap', as I believe that sub-genre is called.

My only fault is that I haven't had the time to experience more of what hip hop has to offer.

And you're right, as I am generally anti-anything-modern, modern hip-hop also gets thrown into the boat. I will try to be more open-minded. (but with Britney Spears, Jessica what's-her-name, and the others, it's kinda easy to shut one's ears to modern corporatized 'music'.)

17. No argument from me!
:D

I dig both groups, but it depends on the mood. I prefer playing PE in public, because of both the message and the wholesome shock value of watching a near-middle-aged-white guy listening outside the box. :D

10. I keep coming back to this thread, and I cannot believe that a DU poll...
Edited on Sun Dec-12-04 10:12 AM by tx_dem41
....would have ABBA maintaining a lead over PE.

I suspect if I went over to Freeperland, a thread exists asking the Freepers to freep this poll.

24. Public Enemy, by definition, are enemies of the public
And since I am part of the public, by the transitive property that makes them my enemy.

And how can I vote for my enemy? Therefore ABBA gets my vote.

If they had been named anything else, even "The David Hasselhoffs", I might have voted differently.
