original/unusual x-mas gift for 21 year old girlfriend
I'm trying to think of something original (read: not jewlery) this year, so just wondering if anyone has any ideas. I'm a guy, so buying clothes for a female is out of the question. There are movies/cds that she might want but I feel like that's something I would give to just a friend... hmm...

If the flame content gets too high or otherwise judged inappropriate.
The term "judged" is sometimes open to wide interpretation.
When it's locked you can't post to it anymore and it eventually goes off the page.
And welcome to DU.
:hi:

3. Well, you know here best
and I agree with the movies and CDs. You should give her something that shows you've been paying attention. Think of what her interests are or any remarks she's made about things that she wants to do.

13. Two Words: Mystery Date
My partner of ten years took me on a mystery date last spring. It was great. He didn't tell me where we were going, only what I should wear and what I should bring. In our case, he said I should wear a nice white dress, that I should bring a comfortable pair of shoes and jeans, that I should bring a bathing suit, that I should bring my medicine (I have lupus, so I have lots of different meds), that I should bring my favorite four pairs of knitting needles and that I shouldn't forget my sunglasses. I was intrigued.

Will told me he'd pick me up after work. He came into the office, blindfolded me, led me out to the car and we took off. We drove up to the mountains where we went roller skating at this cheesy skating rink that had "Neon Nights", then we had a romantic dinner at a Bed and Breakfast. Afterwards, we did some stargazing. The next day, we went out to a sheep/llama/alpaca farm which specialized in unusual yarns. We played around with the animals and afterwards, relaxed in a hottub under the stars.

And yes, all his hard work and ingenuity was rewarded.

21. I'm going to have to disagree with some of the posters here--
Ixnay on the bath products. Some women love them, some women hate them, but all women receive too many of them, because it's an easy gift. The paradox is, of course, that virtual strangers give women products they're supposed to use when they're naked, in order to smell good.

22. Here's some ideas that are relatively inexpensive
1. a sound machine. A boyfriend of mine got me one when I was in college. It was a great gift that I still use today. It helped filter out background noise (white noise setting) from the neighbors when I was studying and I still use the ocean waves to lull myself to sleep.

2. One old broke beau of mine gave me a book he had put together. It was a walk down memory lane type book with photos with pretty funny and heartwarming text. He used old newspaper stories to mark periods of our relationship (since I'm a basketball fan it was mostly BB clippings he had around anyway) or song lyrics to remind me of particular things I had said to him or we experienced together. It came complete with an accompanying HD disk (does that "date" me) that had most of the stuff on it in case I lost the book. (I still have it and we are still friends.)

3. you're in college, is there a place that's special to the two of you? Our special place is on the campus where we fell in love. We still go there once in while because it is where our relationship really started. We met doing a research project together and we would often take breaks outside the library. It seemed like sitting on that bench was the only time during those long days that we ever saw sunlight. Like I said, we still go there. Somedays we'll grab something simple like tacos and cokes and go hang out on our bench. It actually means more to me than anything he could ever buy. And I swear, everytime he takes me there I fall in love with him all over again.

23. You can say "I'm your present, unwrap me!"

Seriously though, the movies/cds is probaly a safe bet but it appears (you state "I feel like that's something I would give to just a friend") you want to do or give something to her that tells her that she is always on your mind and that she truley is unique to you by doing something unique for her. Man, if I was still with my g/f I would be going through the same thing you are, wanting to do something that serperates you from everyone else. Man, I'm really trying to think of an idea. The only thing my mind is leading too is nowhere because if I was in you're shoes I would try to think of event or moment that was very sentimental in your relationship and go from there. For example, in my last relationship the first thing we ever watched on TV was Ricki Lake. One of the activities we did quite often including the first day we met early in the relationship was swimming. There are other examples but the things I stated were the times that we grew in love with each other. I don't think I can ever swim in the pool in my complex again without being affected by the memories, hell even thinking about it as I'm typing it is difficult. Now, I know I don't have much to run with the swimming pool thing but I think by recalling a memorable event that was key in the affection for each other and building around it may show how much you feel for her. Here is an example which is likely unrelated in your case, say you met her for the first time at the park or spent alot of quality time early in the relationship? You could plan a special day with her including a picnic at the park. (Now this was just an example of what I'm talking about) In any case I hope she enjoys whatever gift you do decide to get her and I hope for a fulfilling, promising future for the both of you. Oh Whatever you do, DO NOT use the line in the subject line :) A friend suggested(jokingly) I say that when I was contemplating what to get her for her birthday.

25. I can print you some kind of interesting custom t-shirt
A lot of people are asking me to print shirts for xmas presents. My latest say "Everyone Loves a Berkeley Girl" in a parody of the Urban Outfitters ones. I am going to make another one with some cartoon animals that are an inside joke between a friend and her boyfriend. If you're interested, check out my website: http://www.mayadesign.8m.com/
